We’re back again with new fall classes starting up at Pickle N’ Poker at Oxford Downs! 🏓

Choose one or both 4-week sessions:

-Session 1 starts on Monday, September 28th.
- Session 2 starts on Monday, October 26th.

Beginners are from 5-6pm
Intermediates* are from 6-7pm.

If you have a Step-Up scholarship you’d like to use, contact me for more info on how to apply it to the class.

*Intermediates are players who already have good hand-eye coordination and can sustain a short rally.

Try these 3 warm-up drills with your intermediate students:

1) Sliding d***s - slide across the kitchen line as you practice sinking.

2) Cooperative reflex volleys - stand one step inside the NVZ. Volley back and forth to your partner. Count how many in a row you can get.

3) Slinky reflex volleys - start at the net. After each volley take one step back towards the NVZ line. Once you reach the NVZ line, start to work your way back into the kitchen again.

This beginner serve-return drill keeps all players on the court engaged without too much standing and waiting.

Start with 2 players on the receiving side and 2 players on the baseline ready to serve. Any remaining players can stand behind the baseline on the serving side and await their turn.

The 2 serving players will serve to the appropriate box opposite them. If they keep hitting the serve in, they can continue serving.

Once they miss a serve, the player waiting will take their spot.

Returners will get to practice returning serves. Keep the drill focused on serves and returns and not playing out the point.

Rotate positions as needed.

New this fall: 2 different locations plus choose your class length!

Indoor courts at The D**k Tank inOcala with 4 week classes starting Wednesdays on Sept. 2nd, Sept. 30th, and Nov. 4th.

Choose any or all of the 4-week sessions for up to 12 weeks of continuous classes. Choose 2 or more sessions and get an in-facility credit for future lessons/classes.

Outdoor classes at Pickle N’ Poker at Oxford Downs start Mondays on Sept. 28th and October 26th. Choose 1 or both sessions for up to 8 weeks of continuous classes.

🦈 SHARK ATTACK! 🚩

Try this kid favorite warm-up game if you want something a little less intense but still appropriately challenging.

Using cones or other objects, set a perimeter. Use one fewer cones than you have players.

Within the perimeter, players must perform an exercise such as side shuffles, butt kicks, one-legged hops, etc.

After 10-20 seconds, Coach yells “Shark attack!” and each of the players has to get to safe have at one of the cones.

One player will miss out and “get bit” by having to do an exercise item prescribed by the coach such as squats, burpees, jumping jacks, push-ups etc.

Do this exercise several times to cycle through a variety of exercises.

Here’s another great conditioning and footwork drill to do with your Junior pickleball players…

1) Start each player on the baseline at center court. Place a hopper or basket between them.
2) Place 1 or 2 balls at each intersection of the court.
3) Players must side shuffle, sprint, and/or backpedal to retrieve the balls one by one and place them back into the basket.
4) First one to place all balls back in the basket WINS!

This drill does a fantastic job of working on the athletic on-court movements needed in pickleball as well as change of direction and dynamic first steps.
