Player Spotlight: A Friendship that went the Distance

A few years ago, Cal and Blaz were just two kids on the same team, chasing the same ball, learning the game together. But then Blaz’s family moved back home to Slovenia and you’d think that would be the end of it. Instead, the two families have stayed close, and this summer Cal and his family made the trip to visit Blaz on the other side of the world.

That’s the part of youth soccer that doesn’t show up in the standings. Practices, road trips, and long seasons build something sturdier than a win-loss record. Here we build players who show up for each other, even years and an ocean apart.

This is what we mean when we say soccer is the excuse, not the point. The drills fade, the scores get forgotten, but the teammates and the families you gained along the way? Those stick. At Greater Firelands we are proud of our players that grow into good teammates and better friends.
