English Creek Results:

22 Rbox
Qualifying: 5th
Heat race: 2nd ➡️ 2nd
Feature: DNF

Rolled second quickest time in the heat races out of 22 karts. Sawyer drove a great heat race and was all over the leader, tried for the pass on the last lap but needed 1 more lap to get it done.

Started 5th in the feature and fell into 4th on the start. We definitely had a good kart tonight but unfortunately the 5th place kart tagged him coming out of turn 4 in front of most of the field and as some of the other karts tried to slow our buddy Kayli ducked out of line to avoid a secondary wreck and Sawyer's kart took a direct hit. The left front tire was completely locked up and the frame is bent bad enough that we'll have to retire this one.

Bummer for our driver who worked his butt off all night!

Thanks to all of our sponsors and supporters!

👑 👑

Well, we set out in January with a goal to win a regional title this year, and today Sawyer said "how about 2?".

Today our driver secured a double crown championship for the Maxxis Midwest Speedway Series points and we couldn't be more proud!

We knew today would be tough. Sawyer has always preferred bigger tracks and indoor racing is a whole different game.

Rbox prelude:
Qualifying: Quicktime 🏁
Feature: 1st ➡️ 2nd

Rbox Pro:
Qualifying: 2nd
Feature: 2nd➡️2nd

Sawyer jumped out to the lead in the pro feature, led every lap except the last one. 2nd place kart got to his back tire and made contact, caused Sawyer to get loose and end up in the marbles. That's racing, unfortunately. Our driver was very competitive all day and got better every time he hit the track.

We ended the series with 5 feature wins, and 7 quicktime awards. Sawyer won the Prelude class by 14 points and tied for points in the Pro class. After discussions with Maxxis officials, they decided to name co-champions in the Pro class. We truly feel like having good competition throughout this series has not only made it more fun, but also pushed our driver to be better. Congrats to Dakota Schleef on sharing that co-champ title!

This series took us to 3 awesome new tracks in 3 different states (plus our home track), and we have plans to revisit all of them. We've made new friends along the way and spent invaluable time together as a family.

We can confidently say that Maxxis makes a very competitive, quality treaded tire, and feel like they have been a great addition to our racing program. We already proved 2 weeks ago at Atwater that they can and will outrun Hoosier treads.

Forever grateful for our family and friends, especially grandpa Mike, grandma Marji and uncle Charlie who care for our animals while we are gone.

And last but certainty not least, thank you to our sponsors:

Dear Mom and Dad,

The shop might be a little bit messier than usual today. There might be a few dirty handprints on the wall as I made my way in to wash my hands. The tools might not have made their way back to where they normally are and there's probably going to be a few washers missing.

But -

Today I was determined.
Today I problem solved.
Today I asked questions and learned new things.

Today I felt proud of myself.

And the next time I head to the track - I'll carry that sense of pride with me.

Because today wasn't just about fixing something in the shop.

Wishing our crew chief Charlie a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY today!

Send him some birthday wishes in the comments!

Maybe we'll get the modified out of the shop soon and do some celebrating. 😉

Day #2 English Creek results

Unfortunately we didn't have the run we hoped for in the feature. Sawyer rolled off 10th and crossed the line in 15th. On lap one he was passing 3 wide on the outside for 8th and the middle kart made contact with the inside kart, over corrected and bounced off of Sawyer. We suspect this knocked the toe out on the front end. Sawyer almost spun due to the contact but gathered it up and finally got back in line at the back of the pack and rode it out until the end.

Definitely felt like our driver did the best he could in this situation and we'll be back to try again next year!

Thank you to all of our awesome sponsors and supporters that make it possible for us to run big races like this.

Day #1 English Creek Outlaw Winged Nationals

Qualifying: 11th out of 33 total entries.

Crew chief dad was mad with himself, we missed the gearing big time- track just didn't progress like we thought. Definitely knew we had more speed to show.

Heat race: 3rd➡️2nd

Sawyer had a great showing in the heat. Fired off perfect starts/restarts and stayed right with 1st place at the end of the race which would of been quicktime. Ran 4th quickest lap among all 33 karts in the heats - found our speed!

We've been watching MRP like a hawk this morning because we knew points would be very close - by moms calculations we should of been 10th and top 10 in points are locked into the feature for tonight.

And for the first time (and probably last) mom was right!!! No bmain tonight - Sawyer will roll off 10th and we've accomplished our goal for this race - just to make the feature!

Send us some luck! We're up against some of the toughest competition from all over the U.S. tonight. 🏁

It's day #1 of English Creek Outlaw Wing Nationals and here's a photo of one of Sawyer's favorite parts of this race -

All his best buddies in one place - (maybe all in one chair too). 😁

Tonight we'll run timetrials and a heat race - tomorrow will be last chance races and features.

The little things matter to these kids.

As we watched the first feature come to an end Saturday night, we saw the winner pull to the infield and given a checkered flag for a victory lap.

Sawyer had a big grin on his face and said "do you think they do that for all the winners?"

Thanks for the core memory Atwater Karting Speedway. 🏁

Small mistakes have big consequences in racing unfortunately and everyone makes them.

Day #2 had lots of highs but unfortunately didn't get the results that reflect how good the driver and kart were.

16 karts
Heat: 5th➡️1st
Feature 1st➡️11th

Sawyer lost the lead early in the race and was back to 3rd, but fought back up to 2nd within a few laps. He was running right on the leaders tail into the corner, leader went a little wide and Sawyer saw an opportunity to get under him, but the door was shut pretty quickly and they made contact. Sawyer spun to the infield and had to go to the tail.

What we do know is that he had an extremely fast kart - he turned an even quicker lap tonight vs last night by .2 which is a lot in karting.

Congrats to the 9a of Carter Lange on the win.

See everyone tomorrow at English Creek!
