ISLAND CURRENT FLEET FISHING REPORT

Captain Chris reporting in with another outstanding night of fishing aboard the Island Current Fleet!

Last night, Captains Scott, Mike, and Dan all checked in with excellent reports from the fishing grounds.

Captain Scott, running the nighttime Striped Bass trip, reported a very strong chunking bite on fresh bunker supplied by Jack’s Bait & Tackle. Anglers enjoyed steady action throughout the evening with quality fish keeping rods bent and smiles wide.

On the local bottom grounds, both Captain Dan and Captain Mike reported very good fishing on the 6:30 PM Nighttime Porgy trips. Anglers experienced consistent up-and-down action with plenty of quality-sized porgies coming over the rail. Adding to the excitement was a nice scattering of Black Sea Bass mixed in throughout the night, providing excellent bonus catches and great variety for everyone onboard.

Offshore Deep Drop Tilefish Report

Aboard the 100’ Super Current – City Island, NY

Capt. Scott & Capt. Chris reporting in with an excellent recap from our Offshore Deep Drop Tilefish Trip that departed Monday, June 8 at 8:00 PM from City Island, New York.

After carefully reviewing both the Sunday night and Monday weather forecasts, it was determined that pushing the trip back one day would provide our anglers with the safest and most favorable conditions. Capt. Chris would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of the fishermen who adjusted their schedules to make the change possible. A special shout-out also goes to Wendy for organizing a fantastic group of anglers and helping ensure that the trip was a complete sellout by departure time.

Capt. Scott and Capt. Chris would like to thank everyone who joined us for this memorable offshore adventure. The weather simply could not have been any better. Flat calm seas, warm temperatures, sunshine, and beautiful early June canyon conditions greeted us throughout the trip.

The Tilefish fishing was very productive with quality fish coming over the rail throughout the day. Taking top honors in the boat pool was longtime Island Current Fleet regular Margaret Brown, whose impressive Tilefish tipped the scales at approximately 25 pounds. Congratulations, Margaret, on your personal-best Tilefish!

A huge shout-out also goes to Artem from Rigs For Pigs. Fishing from the pulpit all day with his specialized deep-drop rigs, Artem stayed consistently hooked up with his buddy Josh D. and put together an excellent catch. Great fishing alongside Sam one of our season pass holders for his first time tile trip also putting together a great catch!

As always, Joe Mole and Team Five Star put on a clinic, steadily picking away at quality fish throughout the day. By trip’s end, their coolers were packed with beautiful Tilefish and plenty of fillets for the table.

Bill Rueger of Throggs Neck also enjoyed an outstanding day offshore, easily securing his limit and putting together another successful canyon trip.

Olivia C. from City Island also made this trip and was her first tile trip and put together an amazing catch!

Wendy and her fishing club once again represented themselves exceptionally well, with many anglers reaching full limits and others finishing dangerously close. Congratulations also go out to Mr. Polanco, Edwin Ortiz, and Dave Thomas, all of whom enjoyed strong catches and steady action throughout the trip.

The canyon itself was absolutely loaded with life. Massive schools of squid were present throughout the area, and the amount of bait and marine activity was truly impressive. While some drifts significantly outproduced others and occasional inconsistent drift conditions created a few challenges, the overall Tilefish bite remained strong and rewarding.

The combination of beautiful weather, excellent canyon life, quality fish, and a great group of anglers made this another memorable offshore adventure aboard the 100’ Super Current.
