IDA accelerates dancers' training through a series of ballet and/or tap exercises and dances designed to improve technique, performance quality, and stamina.

The curricula culminate in an adjudicated IDA Awards. **Achievement Through Performance** A developmental program for ballet studios that applies the principles of artistic and technical progress through performance. This program is steeped in classical ballet, complements all teaching methods, and accelerates students’ training. The IDA program has exercises and variations for both male and femal

e dancers. IDA’s exercises are specifically choreographed to progress and improve technical training and artistic performances. What happens when a 7-year-old outgrows creative movement but is not quite ready for a rigid ballet class?

This transition age is a critical moment for student retention. Most studios get it wrong in one of two directions. Move too fast toward formal technique and young dancers lose their spark. Stay too close to creative play and they miss the foundational mastery they need to grow.

The key is not lowering your expectations. It is introducing a standards-based pathway with objective milestones that make the hard work feel genuinely rewarding.

Children love to achieve. When they can clearly see and feel their own progress, their motivation follows naturally. That is the core principle behind IDA's Ballet Building Blocks framework.

Real talk from the NYC studio floors this week. 🏙️

I am currently teaching summer sessions at the Joffrey Ballet School and Steps on Broadway, heading to Ballet Hispánico next week. Teaching across these rooms back to back always sharpens my eye for what actually matters in any dance classroom.

Students arrive with incredible energy. But the moment the choreography gets complex, you can see exactly where their foundations start to waver. It is almost never a lack of talent. It is the micro-details. Pelvic alignment drops. Rhythmic timing goes. Weight placement shifts the second the steps get complicated.

Excellent training does not require an elite room. It requires a commitment to the fundamentals in every single classroom, for every single student.

That is the foundation of Achievement Through Performance, and it is what the IDA curriculum is built around.

This summer, I am stepping onto the studio floors at Joffrey Ballet School, STEPS on Broadway, and Ballet Hispánico to teach their intensive sessions.

When I train dancers at this level, the technical standard required is high.
