✅ Training Tips: Check out these 5 stretch habits that help our Level IV dancers develop the precision, extension & artistry they’re working on in class!
️⃣ Keep hips square! When stretching to the side at the barre, avoid letting your hips twist open or tilt forward. This protects your lower back & builds cleaner extensions.
️⃣ Hold the barre lightly! Use just enough support to balance, not to pull yourself into the stretch. Focus on lengthening through your spine & engaging your core for better control.
️⃣ Breathe deeply & stretch gradually! Never force a position. Inhale to lengthen, exhale to deepen the stretch slightly. Warm muscles stretch more safely & effectively, so remember to stretch after class when your muscles are warm.
️⃣ Maintain turnout from the hips! In straddle or side stretches, rotate from the top of the thigh rather than forcing the feet or knees. Quality over extreme range prevents injury.
️⃣ Listen to your body! Don’t push too far. Stretching can be uncomfortable, but should never hurt. Consistent, smart training beats overdoing it.
