30 years ago today, the professional wrestling world witnessed the highly ambitious World Wrestling Peace Festival, originating from the historic Los Angeles Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California.
The spectacular presentation was brilliantly promoted by the globally iconic Antonio Inoki and successfully united elite athletic competition from prominent global organizations including New Japan Pro Wrestling, World Championship Wrestling, the National Wrestling Alliance, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, and Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre. The incredibly unique main event featured a highly intense collision where the legendary Antonio Inoki formed a powerful alliance with reigning NWA World Heavyweight Champion Dan Severn to definitively defeat the formidable duo of Yoshiaki Fujiwara and Oleg Taktarov.
The deeply stacked card also delivered a massive heavyweight encounter where the incredibly dominant WCW World Heavyweight Champion The Giant secured a highly satisfying victory over the beloved Sting in a deeply competitive non title bout. Despite the absolutely unprecedented level of global talent beautifully blending multiple wrestling styles inside the squared circle, the monumental event ultimately struggled commercially, completely failing to maximize the massive seventeen thousand seat capacity by drawing an intimate crowd of less than six thousand passionate fans.
