Back on the water Tuesday hosting David Hayes for a 1/2 day light tackle trip. David has been fishing with me for years and is an avid angler who knows how to handle a rod. Tuesday did not disappoint, as we targeted flounder for the trip and it was on from the first cast. We found an area that had good water movement with plenty of bait. The fish were thick in that quarter mile stretch. Fished the Neuse River for the day and David stuck over 30 of these flounder, and 1 puppy drum. At one point, David caught 8 fish in 8 casts back to back! Awesome morning catching! See less

Had a full weekend on the water, Mary, Beth, Kathy, and my brother in law Sam looking to hook up on some tugs. Scouting on Friday Mary and I found about 15 flounder and two bull drum (48" & 50") before lunch. This was a first for her, hooked and caught on a popping cork. Saturday morning was essentially a washout, but this crew managed 15 flounder and 1 speckled trout to the boat that afternoon, hooking 2 bull drum, but didn't get either of these to the boat! The next day we hit a shore line that had many species willing to bite. 20 flounder, 12 croakers, and 1, 30 lb. cow nosed ray that we had to chase down. Some of these flounder were really nice! Didn't seem to be a shortage of the flat fish this weekend. Always great to have family out on the Driftwood! Check out their pictures!

Hosted Dan and James on the Driftwood after relentless rain on Friday and Saturday. Finally getting a break later in the weekend, worked our way around the ledges and banks of the Pamilco Sound. The wind cooperated and we stopped at a local area ledge that was holding quite a few fish. Looking at them on the screen before verifying. First bait in the water and it was an instant hookup. Worked through some really stout bluefish before Dan landed a 22" class speckled trout in the boat. Played with those for awhile and then headed to the bank and landed some flounder to finish out the trip. All catch and release!

Brian and Patrick Woodall on the Driftwood for a day of light tackle fishing. Worked the sound side ledges for some action. Mainly a bluefish bite with some speckled trout in the mix. Patrick boated his pb speck today with the fish pushing just over 4 lbs. These two had a few flatfish on as well, but none all the way to the boat. Awesome day with a light wind out of the SE! Back home on the Neuse early Friday morning scouting for some fish to bite on light tackle. Found a school of slot drum with a few stripers mixed in, then, after the sun got up, just over a dozen of slab crappie around two pieces of structure! See less

Hosted Kenny Townsend, his wife Melanie, and their sons Ryker and Maverick. Trip was a birthday present from Melanie to Kenny, we won't mention how many years! We spent the first part of the trip dodging a few storms in the Neuse and casting plastics with a few bites. Next we changed tactics, filled up the live well with some bait and hit some structures along the shore line. First fish in the boat was 27.5 in. striper landed by Kenny, his pb striper! Had quite a few hookups on the stripers, but the area was not kind to our tackle. 2nd part of the trip was finding a ledge with multiple species on it and landed some of each. It was non stop action, the largest a 15 pound gar, but the last fish of the day was a 22in. slot drum landed by Maverick! Maverick was ecstatic! 20+ hookups on stripers, drum, and a few gar! Great job on the rods today from this crew. Awesome day on the water! See less

It is always great to make memories with family. This past weekend my sister Kathy, my sister Beth, and her husband Sam, along with my wife Mary had a weekend together fishing on the beautiful Pamlico Sound. It appears the speck population has suffered from the cold stun earlier this year, but that didn't stop this crew from catching fish. Saturday we set out and worked many different areas and found some really nice grey trout, along with blues and croakers. The bite was consistent for most of the trip. On day 2, we added another species after changing tactics. This species was on just about every area we fished, got visuals on them Saturday. After a tackle change and some tedious instruction, 5 minutes in we were hooked up on a spadefish. That is correct, Spadefish! Now this is a fish that I don't normally target, but you have to adapt and my crew on board did. We started catching these fish along with some specks and croakers. Ounce for ounce, the tug was unreal on the spades! Everyone on board caught these hard fighters. It was not that easy, but my crew made it look that way. What an awesome day learning, catching, and spending time with family! Check out these pictures! See less

A few pics from one of the latest trips, post snow apocalypse. Scouted a few areas and found some active fish on some familiar ledges, including some slab crappie. Spent quite a bit of time watching these fish on the "live" sonar, and their reactions in the cold water environment before some of these made a commitment to bite. Guess which species was the most active.
