It is always great to make memories with family. This past weekend my sister Kathy, my sister Beth, and her husband Sam, along with my wife Mary had a weekend together fishing on the beautiful Pamlico Sound. It appears the speck population has suffered from the cold stun earlier this year, but that didn't stop this crew from catching fish. Saturday we set out and worked many different areas and found some really nice grey trout, along with blues and croakers. The bite was consistent for most of the trip. On day 2, we added another species after changing tactics. This species was on just about every area we fished, got visuals on them Saturday. After a tackle change and some tedious instruction, 5 minutes in we were hooked up on a spadefish. That is correct, Spadefish! Now this is a fish that I don't normally target, but you have to adapt and my crew on board did. We started catching these fish along with some specks and croakers. Ounce for ounce, the tug was unreal on the spades! Everyone on board caught these hard fighters. It was not that easy, but my crew made it look that way. What an awesome day learning, catching, and spending time with family! Check out these pictures! See less
