The other day Warren had the brilliant idea of taking a picture of the “grey belt army.” He even coordinated how everyone was arranged for the pictures. So here we have a serious pose, a heroic pose, and a silly pose. I think it represents the pride the kids take in their hard work and accomplishments. I wish all of our students could have been there.

Friday night was a great night at Main Street BJJ. Harrison, Lincoln, and Aiden promoted to the their next belt levels. Aiden and Lincoln are two of our younger students but have older brothers in class so they have been with us before they could step out on the mat. Both boys are fierce and rambunctious. Despite their smaller stature, they never hesitate to double-leg sweep the older students. We have so much fun watching them grow. Good job gentlemen!

A huge congratulations to Harrison on his belt promotion to Yellow/White belt. The first picture is from 9/2020 when he received his very first stripe at 6 years old. Between these two photos is a ton of blood, sweat, tears, fear, frustration, and challenges. There is also pride, leadership, mentorship, laughter, friendships, and maturity. Behind that coy smile is an amazing young man. It is an absolute privilege to train with him and be a part of his journey. Also a big shout out to mom and dad for their hard work, dedication, and mileage in making this happen. Thank you for being a part of our jitsu family.

Congratulations to Harrison, Kane, and Owen on their stripe promotions. Harrison is now in his testing period for his yellow belt. All three of these gentlemen have been with us for a long time (Harrison is the longest) and it has been amazing watching them grow. Thanks to them and their parents for letting us be a part of their success.

Big congratulations to Isaac on earning his grey/white belt. Always cool as a cucumber and takes his training seriously. He is a very disciplined young man and trains in other martial arts. We are glad to have him in class.

Big night for promotions. Max and Eli (Eli was actually promoted last week and not pictured) earned their blue belts. They are all round great guys and we are thankful they go easy on us older folks in class.
Acacia earned her 1st belt promotion. She is bright young lady and not afraid to face any challenge. She even joined the Central Iowa Women’s Open Mat last weekend.
Jodi earned her next stripe and is a powerhouse on the mats. In addition to her jitsu skills, she embraces being a mentor to her teammates.
Warren and Oscar leveled up with another stripe. Warren never ceases to amaze me with mature attitude (and just a tad of sassiness). Oscar always has a can to attitude and smile on his face.
Last but not least, Joe earned his last stripe on his white belt. He has a great attitude, a tough opponent, and great partner with our more junior students.
Each piece of tape or colored belt represents hard work and perseverance not only from the students themselves but also the parents. They are the ones that drag them to class when they rather watch TV. The ones that cheer them on and wipe the tears. Thank you to all our jitsu family.

Another awesome Women’s Open Mat. I didn’t catch all the gyms represented but we had ladies from Ames, Des Moines, Marshalltown, and Nevada. Great to see women supporting women.
