Southam Dojo LLC is the only recognized school to represent the Hakkoryu Hombu in Pennsylvania.

KODOKAN JUDO ( non sport ) 6 pm Thursday
9 am Saturday

HAKKORYU JUJUTSU 7 pm Thursday
10 am Saturday

KODOKAN JUDO ( curriculum ) at Southam Dojo consists of:

1. Nage Waza -- throwing techniques
2. Katame Waza -- holding tecniques
jointlocks
choking techniques at appropriate age and
maturity level
3. Atemi Waza -- striking techniques

Ukemi -- Learning to fall safely
Kata -- Prearranged form
Goshin Jutsu -- Self-defense application of the Principles
and Techniques of Kodokan Judo

Kodokan Judo is a Martial Art and Olympic sport. However at Southam Dojo LLC Kodokan Judo is taught as an effective means of SELF-DEFENSE.
The techniques and principles of Kodokan Judo give you
* options* in your response to an assault from mild to severe.
YOU do not have as your only response : the causing of injury or worse to an assailant. Due to not learning other options.

Hakkoryu Jujutsu is a traditional Japanese MARTIAL ART that has as an aim the HUMANE treatment of the assailant. You do not have to intentionally injure the attacker. You administer temporary discomfort through the technique and controlled compliance.
I can assure you the techniques of Hakkoryu work due to my several visits to the Hakkoryu Hombu Dojo( headquarters ) to train under Nidai Soke Okuyama who is the current headmaster of Hakkoryu Jujutsu located in Omiya ,Japan. As well as with other Hakkoryu Masters at the Hombu.

Hakkoryu Jujutsu is ideal for teachers, law-enforcement , students of other martial arts as an adjunct to what you already know.
High schools, medical facilities and law-enforcement may have a curriculum they require ALL staff to take and they may call it assautive behavior training, combatives or as I refer to it
" Physical Management of Aggressive Behavior".
Hakkoryu Jujutsu and Kodokan Judo would be an asset to enhance what is already in place.

Hakkoryu Jujutsu and Kodokan judo

There is no sport competition in Hakkoryu and even though Judo is both a martial art and olympic sport. At Southam Dojo LLC the martial art aspect and self-defense are stressed in the study of Judo and not sport. We only wear WHITE GI ( uniform ) in class.
Yes we learn the same 40 basic throws as those who are sport
minded. SPORT enthusiasts study how to apply throws in competition whereas in my DOJO we learn their application to self-defense along with striking, blocking and other defensive techniques. We learn how not to inflict injury to the assailant when required,controls and restraints, etc.,etc.,.

Hakkoryu Jujutsu is a humane form of self-defense with again the emphasis on noninjury. This art is ideal for adults,police,and teachers. Anyone who must follow a USE OF FORCE POLICY.
I am very experienced in teaching adults of all ages including
SENIORS.

Southam Dojo LLC teaches the Traditional Japanese Martial Arts of Hakkoryu Jujutsu and Kodokan Judo ( non sport ).

Hakkoryu Jujutsu is a Humane form of self- defense with tenents of
1. No Challenge 2. No Resistance 3. No Injury

Kodokan Judo taught at Southam Dojo LLC emphasis is on the application of the techniques and principles of Kodokan Judo in protecting yourself,family,and others if possible.
Olympic Judo / sport Judo schools emphasize the application of Judo techniques towards sporting activity and not Personal Defense. YES we all study the Gokyu no Waza, Holds, Joint locks and Chokes ( at appropriate level and rank).
HOWEVER, we apply against one assailant or multiple assailants.
against weapons such as a club,bat ot long stick.
We study striking ( atemi waza )
Taiho Jutsu ( control and restraint using principles and techniques of Kodokan Judo.
We practice having OPTIONS in our response to an assailant from mild to severe if required in response to an attack. Not having the only option of striking in our tool box of defenses.
Ideal for anyone who must follow a USE OF FORCE POICY such as police,teachers, healthcare workers.
