10 Years of EYG Basketball
Ten years ago today, EYG Basketball was created from one simple vision: using the game of basketball to create opportunities for young people, especially Native youth.
Founder and President Coach July has always had a passion for helping others. During his basketball journey, he had opportunities to work with major college programs, including University of Kansas Menβs Basketball and Kansas State Menβs Basketball through internship experiences. While those opportunities were exciting, Coach July felt called to make a difference closer to home.
What started as an internship at Haskell Indian Nations University inspired him to bring basketball opportunities back to his community. His original goal was simple: host a basketball clinic and help young athletes improve their skills.
As the youngest of six children, Coach July understood the financial challenges many families face. He often asked himself, βWhat about the families with four kids who all want to get better? What about the single parents who donβt have the income to afford expensive training?β Those questions became the foundation of EYG Basketball.
From day one, EYG was built on the belief that every child deserves an opportunity to learn, grow, and chase their dreams regardless of financial circumstances.
Over the last 10 years, that vision has grown beyond anything imagined:
π Trained over 1,000 youth athletes
π Coached over 500 players through EYG travel basketball teams
π Helped send over 80 student-athletes to college with scholarship opportunities
π Worked with more than 15 tribal communities and reservations across the country
π Created affordable camps, clinics, teams, and development opportunities for Native youth and communities
Today, EYG Basketball is more than an organization. It is a movement dedicated to elevating young athletes on and off the court.
As we celebrate 10 years of EYG Basketball, we thank every player, parent, coach, volunteer, tribe, and community that has been part of this journey.
The mission remains the same: Create opportunities. Build confidence. Change lives through basketball.
