This photograph of our fair captain Squatch and his well-deserved expression of exhaustion is all that is needed to describe today’s hard-fought contest where the Scouts victored over Resolute of Jackson Vintage Base Ball Club 12-11.

Huzzahs were shared all around between the two clubs with many notable defensive efforts and timely striking.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WGNS) - The crack of the bat and the cheers of the crowd will sound a little different at Oaklands Mansion this summer. The Tennessee Association of Vintage Base Ball is officially in full swing for the 2026 season. Murfreesboro’s own club, the Stones River Scouts, just re...

Did you know that box scores in the 1860s looked quite different from what we see today?

Included here is an example of a vintage-style box score from the Scouts’ matches this past weekend. You’ll notice that only runs (R) and outs (O) are recorded.

This format was inspired by cricket scorekeeping, reflecting the influence of Henry Chadwick—often called the father of baseball statistics—who brought ideas from his cricket background into the game.

It’s fascinating to see how much baseball has evolved over time, while still holding onto elements of its early roots.

Here is a link to an interesting SABR article with more information about early scorekeeping:

Many a bats struck well, many a ballists crossed the home dish…but the gentleman of the Knoxvilles emerged victorious by a margin of 28-15 over your fair Scouts this day at Ramsey House.

The Knoxvilles were as gracious of hosts as they were mighty strikers and the Scouts greatly appreciate their hospitality and gladly await the next time the clubs share the grounds of play.

Fair patrons and local businesses of our home territory, our baseball club is proud to announce our schedule of home contests to be played at Oaklands Mansion this season.

While we will endeavor to place these paper notices all about the area, if you or those you know have a business kind enough to post one for us for their customers to see, please send word to us in the comments or by direct message in lieu of courier or train.

We greatly appreciate your support and anticipate seeing you at one or all of these contests!
