Coastal Expeditions is a group of well-trained naturalist guides with a deep love for the Lowcountry. Thirty years ago, we opened the first kayak ecotour business in Charleston, and have since expanded to on-water locations in Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge, Isle of Palms, Kiawah River and Beaufort. We go where the the best wildlife and nature experiences can be found, creating tours that ap

peal to families, photographers, shell seekers, history lovers and adventurers. Take the ferry to Bulls Island to see the Boneyard Beach or go on a Shem Creek kayak safari to see dolphins. Wake before dawn for a sunrise paddle on Morgan Creek or rent a few paddleboards and go out with friends. Come on a tour or rent some gear to see why year after year Coastal Expeditions is voted Charleston's best ecotour company.

Our LEAP program helps local students explore careers in conservation and outdoor leadership through paid internships with Coastal Expeditions.

Over the summer, the interns (Forrest, Zi and Alekza) will learn about ecotourism and other career opportunities by working at Coastal Expeditions and with our partners.

Today, Coastal Expeditions naturalist Madison and the interns met with Tia from Casual Crabbing with Tia to learn how she created her business and how she connects with the community.

Thank you, Tia!!

Crab Bank is more than an island to us. It's a reflection of the Charleston community's spirit for conservation. This seabird sanctuary is full of baby birds right now and you don't want to miss it.

We're offering trips all summer to see this raucous (it's loud and busy!) island of Eastern brown pelicans, black skimmers, American oystercatchers, terns and more. Departing from our Shem Creek dock, you get to experience the liveliness of this working creek, incredible views of the Holy City, AND watch a nature documentary unfold in front of you as parents feed their fledglings and teach them how to be a bird.

Beautiful photos: .co for the x B.I.R.D. work.

Something very exciting happened this year-- the pelicans started nesting at the start of the season on Crab Bank, and now they are crowding the island with other seabirds like terns, oystercatchers and skimmers.

To celebrate, we're offering special trips geared towards photographers and birders this summer. Only 16 people per trip, offered at sunrise and sunset.

The only sunrise trip on the schedule right now is JUNE 12 so get signed up to watch this raucous island emerge from its nightly slumber.

As always, we will not disturb the colonies and will position in a way that lets you capture the best light and images.

Get signed up for a sunrise or sunset: https://coastalexpeditions.com/project/crab-bank-bird/
