🎃👻 Happy Halloween from 3 Gems! 🐴🧡
Halloween has always been a fun time at 3 Gems, filled with costumes, laughter, creative decorations, and plenty of horsey Halloween shenanigans! 🧙‍♀️🐎
This year, with our 2026 Barn Rebuild in full swing, we're trading costumes and Halloween party preparations for construction crews, power tools, and sawdust! 🔨🏗️
Unfortunately, that means we won't be hosting our annual Halloween party this year. But that doesn't mean we can't celebrate the memories!

🐴 A Quick Update on the 2026 3 Gems Rebuild! 🛠️

The arena wall staining is officially complete! The stall walls are going up, setting the stage for the next phase of second-floor construction. Work on the stall floors also kicked off today, and electrical work is scheduled to begin next week!

One step at a time, it's all coming together! 🐎✨

The arena walls are receiving their final details as the boards are stained and the interior steel work is finishing up. Next on the list: electrical!

🍁🐴 Sometimes You Just Have to Stop and Enjoy the Ride! 🍂❤️
Fall is such a beautiful time at 3 Gems! The trails are peaceful, the colors are gorgeous, and there's something about riding through the autumn scenery that makes you forget about the never-ending to-do list. 🍁🌾
With the 3 Gems Rebuild of 2026 still in full swing, it seems like there's always another project waiting to be finished. But today, when Jim headed off on his daily pilgrimage to Menards for MORE supplies 😂🔨, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to saddle up Vegas and enjoy a little trail time!
A special THANK YOU to the wonderful friends who joined me today! ❤️ Good horses, great company, beautiful scenery, and a little laughter are good for the soul.
Sometimes we get so busy building and improving the place that we forget to slow down and enjoy the very things that make it so special.
The work will still be there tomorrow, but beautiful fall days like this don't last forever. 🍂🐎

🍂🐴 Fall Lessons at 3 Gems! 🍁

There's something special about fall at the barn! ❤️

The horses are getting their fuzzy winter coats, the air is crisp, the arena lights are coming on a little earlier, and our riders are trading their T-shirts for hoodies and gloves.

Between school, sports, activities, and busy family schedules, fall can be a juggling act. But there's something wonderful about leaving all that behind for a little horse time. 🐎

At 3 Gems, lessons are about so much more than learning to ride. They're about building confidence, developing patience, learning responsibility, overcoming challenges, and creating friendships — both two-legged🐈‍⬛️ and four-legged.🐎 💎

Whether you're just beginning your riding journey or continuing to build your skills, there's always something new to learn, no matter the season.

The temperatures may be dropping, but the learning, laughter, and love for horses never stop! 🍁❤️

While everyone else is dressing up for Halloween, I've been rocking the spooky look all year long. 😼
My Halloween plans? Scare a few horses, supervise the humans, demand treats, and pretend I don't like attention.

At 3 Gems, preparation is part of how we care for our horses and students. We build skills one ride at a time—with patience, practice, and respect for the horse.

We do our part in the barn and arena, while remembering that every ride, every lesson, and every safe return is a blessing. We’re grateful for the horses who teach us and for the faith that guides us. 🐴🙏

🐴🦷 Horses Eat Treats… So Why Don’t They Brush Their Teeth? 🥕🍎

It's a question we hear from kids at 3 Gems!

“If horses eat apples, carrots, and treats, why don't they have to brush their teeth?” 🤔

Good question! Especially considering how many treats our lesson horses manage to convince their students they deserve! 😂

Imagine trying to convince a 1,200-pound horse to brush twice a day, floss, and rinse! And you thought getting your kids to brush was a challenge! 🤣

Luckily, horses have their own dental care routine!

🦷 Chewing is nature's toothbrush! Horses spend hours chewing hay and grass, which helps wear down their continuously erupting teeth.

🦷 Regular dental checkups! Most adult horses should have their teeth examined at least once a year, with some needing more frequent care.

🦷 Floating! Unlike us, horses can develop sharp edges on their teeth. A veterinarian smooths these down when needed to keep them comfortable.

🦷 Watch for warning signs! Dropping feed, difficulty chewing, weight loss, or resistance to the bit can all be signs of dental problems.

❤️ At 3 Gems, keeping our lesson horses happy and healthy is a priority. After all, they work hard teaching our riders, and they deserve the very best care!

And don't worry, kids… just because the horses don't have to brush their teeth doesn't mean YOU get to skip it! 😁🐴

🐴💎 TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK — ESPECIALLY FOR OUR LESSON HORSES! 💎🐴
At 3 Gems, keeping our lesson horses happy, healthy, and comfortable is always a top priority. ❤️
Today, Olaf was the lucky recipient of some extra-special care! 🐴
What makes his care so special is the teamwork between our veterinarian and farrier, who work together to make sure Olaf gets exactly what he needs.
🧲 Step 1: Our farrier removed Olaf's old shoes.
🩻 Step 2: Our veterinarian took X-rays to get a closer look at what was happening inside his hooves.
🤝 Step 3: The vet and farrier reviewed the X-rays together, discussing the best approach to support Olaf's comfort and soundness.
🔨 Step 4: With a plan in place, our farrier fitted Olaf with specialized shoes designed for his individual needs.
💉 Step 5: Finally, our veterinarian performed joint injections to help improve Olaf's comfort.
It takes a team to care for the horses who take care of our students. ❤️
Our lesson horses give so much of themselves. They patiently teach beginners, build confidence, forgive mistakes, and help riders discover a love for horses that can last a lifetime.
The least we can do is give them the very best care in return.
A huge THANK YOU to our veterinarian and farrier for combining their knowledge and expertise to help keep Olaf comfortable and doing what he does best — being one of our beloved 3 Gems teachers! 💎🐴

Yesterday, Buddy began a new chapter at his retirement home: 80 acres of pasture, plenty of daily affection, and a lifetime horsewoman ready to spoil him. He’ll enjoy occasional rides with her and her grandchildren, too—a lovely fit for a good horse who has given so much.

Buddy’s story is closely tied to Jerry’s. Six years ago, when Jerry was 75, he called with one request: he wanted to ride. A lifelong horseman, he didn’t need lessons—just a little extra help because of Parkinson’s and a riding partner. I was lucky to join them for trail rides and conversations, and those memories still mean so much.

Jerry generously donated Buddy to our lesson program, where Buddy became a partner to many students. He helped make their time at the barn possible and gave them a horse to learn with, care for, and remember. The impact of a lesson horse reaches far beyond the ride, and Buddy has been part of so many special moments.

Today, Jerry’s daughter and I continue to do what we can to keep his love of horses alive. We’re grateful for all that Jerry and Buddy have brought to our lives and to the lives of our students—and thankful Buddy now has a home where he’ll be cherished every day.
