Hi, I’m Carley 👋 and I run a dance fitness class in Downtown Monroe, MI 📍
I have been on my fitness journey for almost 15 years, and here are some things I have learned, are in the process of learning, or just really strongly believe in:
🔹 Exercise shouldn’t be miserable all the time (like what are we doing?!) Yeah, training legs is pretty miserable for me, but I definitely don’t do that everyday. If you are just starting out, find something you ENJOY first so you can actually stick with it 👏
🔹 Workouts don’t need to be one hour to “count”. I get a little obsessed with numbers 🙃, so back in the day I needed to exercise 60 minutes and burn X amount of calories or I felt like the whole workout was a failure (kinda psycho behavior tbh). Now I learned that something is always better than nothing, and the way I can kick my own butt in 30 minutes is 👌
🔹 Discipline beats motivation every single time. I brush my teeth because I don’t want cavities. I take a shower because hygiene is important. I exercise because it helps my body age better. On any given day, I could come up with at least 10 realllly good reasons to skip my workout, but on most days I don’t because I know it matters in the long run 🙌
🔹 Group fitness is my shizzzz, and working out with my besties is my love language. Some people truly enjoy working out solo, but if that’s not working for you, go find a squad!! Step out of your comfort zone and join a class, because honestly, I have never been to a group fitness class where I didn’t feel welcome 🫶🏼
🔹 The scale is just ONE piece of the big picture (still VERY much working on this). Especially as women, our weight can fluctuate soooo much week to week. It’s not fair to you to have that one piece of information be your determination for whether you’re succeeding or failing. How are your energy levels? Do your clothes fit better? Do you feel more confident? Are you gaining muscle? If the scale is the ONLY factor you’re considering, it’s going to let you down 😣
Thanks for reading, and have the best week, friend 😘
