We’re proud to share today’s feature in the Quad City Times highlighting Moline’s 10th trip to the IHSA Bass Fishing State Final Tournament at Lake Shelbyville this Friday!
Two boats qualified this year, continuing an incredible legacy since IHSA first sanctioned bass fishing in 2009. Even cooler? Former Moline angler Tim Himsl — who was on Moline’s very first team back in 2009 as a senior — is now back as a coach, helping guide the next generation of anglers!
Fun fact: In 2009, Tim’s boat, Coached by Brian Prybil, finished 4th at sectionals — just missing state qualification, as only the top three teams advanced. In the final two minutes, Tim hooked a fish that would have actually won the sectional, but it fell off right at the boat. Now, years later, Tim’s paying it forward by coaching today’s anglers on their own journey to state!
Head Coach Tim Albrecht and the coaching team have built a powerhouse program, turning practice, patience, and passion into a lifelong love of fishing for these students. Seniors like Justin Mendoza are closing out their Moline careers with a state appearance, while younger anglers like sophomore Henry Hazen are stepping up in a big way.
Wishing the team the best as they cast for a state title this weekend! Let’s go, Maroons! 🏆🐟💪
