Got a text from my college roommate back in December asking if I’d run the Salt Lake City Marathon.
At the time, I had a full winter of ski touring ahead and figured I could convert that fitness into running shape with a little road work once the season wrapped up.
Between injuries, work schedules, and a lot of back and forth, it wasn’t even clear it was going to happen. Then two days before the race, it came together. He made it into town, and we decided to cut the mileage in half. Neither of us had really been running.
First organized 1/2 marathon for me, and it couldn’t have gone better.
We spent the whole time catching up, laughing, and just enjoying being out there. Crossed the finish line in a respectable time for someone who’s run 10 miles in the last 4 months.
Not a bad way to turn a winter of ski touring into something completely different and try something new.
Thanks to for making the call.
and for showing up at mile 11 with hugs and encouragement.
and her for all helping to keep me in a place where running 13 on a whim is possible. If you’re looking for a trainer she does so remotely and is fantastic at what she does.
