Statewide fireworks ban!

Statewide fireworks ban!

Governor Cox has issued an Emergency Declaration banning all fireworks in Utah through at least July 5. This year is unlike anything we have seen before, and the restrictions match the risk. I am grateful the State of Utah has taken these steps to protect our communities and our first responders — but it is still up to each of us to do our part.

If you see fireworks being used, report it: Salt Lake City and Sandy residents can call 801-799-3000. For the rest of Salt Lake County, call 801-840-4000. The first violation carries a $1,000 fine, and enforcement this year is serious. Every tool available will be used to prosecute offenders criminally and pursue liability for fire suppression costs.

With all of that said, this Fourth of July should absolutely be a celebration. Two hundred and fifty years is worth marking, and there are great ways to do it safely. Professional shows and drone light shows are still happening in designated areas and are genuinely spectacular. Spend the day at a county pool, golf course, park, or splash pad. We may even look back on America250 as the year we started some new traditions.

Some of the best family memories aren’t made in front of a screen, they’re made on the river. 🌊❤️

Laughing together, spotting wildlife, splashing through gentle rapids, and enjoying the beauty of Moab create moments your family will talk about for years to come. Whether it’s your kids’ first rafting trip or a family tradition, a day on the Colorado River is one you’ll be talking about long after vacation ends.

Make memories that last long after the vacation ends.

Got a text from my college roommate back in December asking if I’d run the Salt Lake City Marathon.

At the time, I had a full winter of ski touring ahead and figured I could convert that fitness into running shape with a little road work once the season wrapped up.

Between injuries, work schedules, and a lot of back and forth, it wasn’t even clear it was going to happen. Then two days before the race, it came together. He made it into town, and we decided to cut the mileage in half. Neither of us had really been running.

First organized 1/2 marathon for me, and it couldn’t have gone better.

We spent the whole time catching up, laughing, and just enjoying being out there. Crossed the finish line in a respectable time for someone who’s run 10 miles in the last 4 months.

Not a bad way to turn a winter of ski touring into something completely different and try something new.

Thanks to for making the call.
and for showing up at mile 11 with hugs and encouragement.

and her for all helping to keep me in a place where running 13 on a whim is possible. If you’re looking for a trainer she does so remotely and is fantastic at what she does.
