We are so proud to have him as part of our swim lesson team at HP! Thank you, Mr. Matt, for leading by example and showing us what it means to serve with excellence and heart. 💙🏊‍♀️

Matthew’s approach to swim lessons made an immediate impact on his nominator's 7-year-old. "In fact, that first week we had to go home after swim lessons and spend an hour and half in the bathtub with his goggles practicing for swim lessons and to show Matt he could hold his breath underwater like he showed him."

The child was sad to see swim lessons end — but he left with a role model. "Matt is someone to look up to. He's excited to watch Matt play football at MSU this fall, and we will be at a few games to support the young man who supported, built trust, and gave our son confidence in himself in the water."

We say youth sports need to change…

But are we willing to look in the mirror and ask: Are we part of the problem we’re trying to fix?

Our kids don’t need perfect parents. We all mess up. But our kids should be able to love sports and play simply because it’s fun.

Our job as parents is to walk alongside them, encourage them, support them, and challenge them when necessary and appropriate, not add more pressure or take away from the joy of the game.

Do you know what ACTUALLY makes our youth S&C Program more effective than anywhere else?

How often our athletes AREN’T successful. Most kids are terrified of failing in front of their peers. Not here. We have carefully curated an environment where athletes are consistently encouraged to explore the edge of their current capabilities.

Our kids fail safely every day. Then we use those failures as opportunities to develop and learn. THIS is the only thing that truly works.

Show up, push your limits, experience some failure, reflect, and keep showing up until that limitation is your new baseline.
