What a crazy weekend!
What was supposed to be a three-day event was squeezed into two days because of bad weather predicted for Sunday.
We couldn’t get to the track until 3:30 Friday, so Rev had to jump into a car that he hadn’t driven or even started since last September. With that in mind he was able to place 7th in the second feature.
Saturday started with making some adjustments based on Rev’s feedback from Friday. We knew we would have two rounds of practice before qualifying to sort things out…or so we thought. We couldn’t get the car started for round two due to an electrical issue that we were able to diagnose fairly quickly, so we would hit qualifying after one practice.
Rev’s times continued to improve through qualifying as he became more comfortable behind the wheel.
Rev took 5th in the first feature, but a crash (a car spun in front of Rev with nowhere to go), coupled with some miscommunication with the race director and a resulting broken bumper that probably would have meant a 🏴 anyway resulted in 7th in the second feature.
But Rev really started to look like his old self in the third feature, charging up to third place! A restart at the end led to a photo finish with a hard-charging Adrianna Hawes, but Rev was able to squeak out a 3rd place finish! Glad the finish line wasn’t 50 feet further away!!!
At the end of the day though, it wasn’t about lap times, standings, or where Rev finished. Just to see him back at the track with his friends was the best part of the weekend. He couldn’t be out of our pit more than a couple minutes without one of his buddies asking, “where’s Rev?”
We still have a couple issues to sort out but we will be locked and loaded for next Saturday! Come on down for another Eve of Destruction’ night at Elko Speedway!!!
