Jason (pictured) got married at Bauhaus before he started working there. That’s how much this place is a part of his life.

We almost lost Bauhaus this summer. Rather, we lost Bauhaus and got a new Bauhaus back. There’s something to morn there, but plenty to celebrate. And we’re super grateful to have a business like Bauhaus in our neck of the woods. Look for their events calendar (Octoberfest, Trivia Night, etc.).

It really is a new thing with some cool changes. And it’s the same old (old) space. Bauhaus is one of the best reuses of Northeast’s old industrial spaces.

So help us welcome the new (and old) crew and the new effort to the neighborhood on Sunday at 10am. We’ll do our usual Coffee (Outside) standing around chatting thing until 11:00 when Bauhaus actually opens on Sundays.

Then we’ll immediately leave (not immediately) for our regular NE Community Ride at 11:00ish.

And please do come for yoga at Recovery Bike Shop before all of that. 9am. It’s free. Halen is leading class this week and it’s a great way to be nice to yourself and kick off a new week.

Note: The La Troquita Del Sur food truck residence continues on Sunday at Bauhaus. Check out their brunch menu (which includes a breakfast burrito!).

I don’t know of a more incredible backyard garden in NE Mpls than Ro & Sarah’s. And that’s saying a lot because my friends host seed exchanges, harvest parties, and garden tour bike rides.

Sarah & Ro have generously volunteered to let us bring Coffee (Outside) to see the splendor they have created.

Now I am not a garden person. I am barely a vegetable person. And it doesn’t get nerdier than this as far as gardening is concerned. But I was blown away by the knowledge, commitment, breadth, and depth (and height) of their project. I can’t even say “yard” anymore because they are managing four properties immediately adjacent to their house. This is really incredible. This is so good for Northeast. We’re talking habitat, micro climates, storm water mitigation, food production, pest control, passive solar, all of the things! These two are setting a fantastic example and I’d love for you to see it.

Thanks to an amendment by Council Members Elliott Payne and Michael Rainville, the Central Ave Art Walk got a much needed vote of confidence Thursday as the Central Ave reconstruction project goes back to MNDoT.

Payne Elliott Payne and Rainville Michael Rainville for Ward 3 (and their amazing staff), who have both been very supportive of the Art Walk, made sure MNDoT would understand that the lines on the street matter a great deal to the people of Northeast Minneapolis. Their amendment calls for “MNDoT to acknowledge that this part of Central Avenue is not a highway but a dense urban arts district.” The amendment speaks to the Art Walk specifically and calls for the inclusion of input from the Arts District and the greater community. This is a big step. This is a win.

Thank you to everyone who has sent emails or made phone calls or showed up for Coffee (Outside) to advocate for the Central Ave Art Walk over the last two years. The work has a long way to go, but we have been working to get to this exact point for a long time. And we are being heard! This is a real win for the Arts District, for our neighbors, and for Minneapolis.

Get on the bike bus, our annual group ride to the MN State Fair. Ride departs Recovery Bike Shop at 10:20am. Meet us at the bike shop or anywhere along the published route and join us when we pass by.

The important thing is that parking a car at the Fair sucks and group rides are awesome. Everyone welcome. All of our rides are no-drop and party pace, especially when we’re going to a party like the State Fair.

This Wednesday’s ride will be an out and back with a potluck in the middle at Bohemian Flats. Please bring something to share even if it’s just your winning personality. All are welcome.

This ride will cover less distance than a typical Wednesday ride, but take longer.

6pm departure from Sociable
7:00 arrival at Bohemian Flats
7:45 departure back to Sociable for those that want the company of a group ride return to the Cider Werks

President Jackson (not pictured) was a racist, a misogynist, and a profiteer. I can only think of one president worse than this guy. He signed orders targeting ethnic populations and adopted policies of ethnic cleansing. He attacked the Federal bank, calling it bad for America and worked to undermine its authority. When he lost an election, he claimed that the system was rigged.

He was a demagogue who ignored the law when it suited him.

So Jackson Square Park is in the process of being renamed. Join us 10am Sunday at Coffee (Outside) for a renaming discussion (including Park Commissioner Dan Engelhart Dan Engelhart ), Title IX construction updates, and treats!

And don’t forget about yoga with Rachel Croft at Recovery Bike Shop at 9am Sunday. It’s free!

And the NE Community Ride leaves the Park this Sunday at about 11am. Everyone welcome!

You should also know that Elli levels up Recovery Bike Shop. I always look forward to greeting them. Elli is thoughtful in answering the “How you doin?” question and asks back with a sincerity that makes me really think about how I’m doing. It’s just nicer to be in the shop when Elli is here.

It was a heck of a ride last week. Three flat tires, one bloody knee, and a scraped elbow. Lots of starts and stops.

But we did get this awesome photo!

And it was pretty much all fine. Actually it was kind of lovely. It’s a no drop ride. So when there is a flat, we all pulled over, check to see if there is any way we can help, then back to the conversation to wait for things to get back on track.

We got back to Sociable a little later than usual last week, but the cider was still cold, the people were still great.

Thanks for your patience, everyone. But mostly, thanks for a great evening. These long summer days with all of you are really the best. See you tonight!

It’s our annual group ride to the Fair! And the worst parking event of the year! Yay!

Really, riding is the only way to get to the Fair. Join the group. We’ll get you there on a preplanned route with a regular schedule. Meet at Recovery Bike Shop around 10am or join anywhere along the map. We’ll pick you up as we pass by!

Ride starts at Recovery Bike Shop and heads out at 10:20am. We’ll park our bikes at the Buford Ave bike corral. (Then follow us to the fine arts building where TWO of our friends have been selected to display their work! Congratulations Nick and Barbara )
