Many have heard the word Trauma bantered around of late. What is it? Why does it matter to anyone?
Trauma is the way your body reacts to a stressful event. It isn't the event itself, but the aftermath that affects your body and the functioning of your nervous system. I think of it as the "side effects" that people may feel from the stressors they've experienced in life, whether in childhood or adulthood. Side effects like anxiety, panic attacks, depression, insomnia, nightmares, all manner of insecurities, the list is long and entirely depends on the individual, their makeup and what experiences they've had. These side-effects can all be attributed to a disregulated nervous system. Many of us never learned anything about this and most doctors and therapists either are not aware or do not offer this information. It can save your sanity and add more lightness and joy to your life than you can imagine. My mission in this life is to spread this information and help people take back control of their well-being through nervous system regulation.
