As they say, all good things must come to an end. Battle Mountain threw down this weekend at Jeffco stadium for the 4A state meet. All of the Battle Mountain athletes finished higher than their seeds and many of them set lifetime bests! The 4 x 800 led off the meet with four strong legs that accumulated a time that gave them 4th overall in the state, 3 spots better than their seed. . Next, one hour and forty five minutes after her 800, Reese McCommons ran her first state open event. She clocked 60.33 and finished 13th, 4 spots ahead of her seed. Our next event was the 3200 on Fri and it was something special. Eden Demino gutted out a 10:51 in the 2 mile for 6th, 3 spots ahead of her seed. It is the second fastest time in BMHS track history and the new altitude school record. She competed and hung with some of the best distance runners in the country! Closing out the girls competition, the 4x4 set a season PR of 4:08 and finished 13th, 5 spots ahead of their seed. The lone competitor on Saturday was Kye Gosnell in the PV. Kye battleded weather and pole issues to set a 5' lifetime best finishing 12th. That was 2 spots better than he was seeded coming in. It was an unforgettable State meet and we as coaches couldn't be prouder.
