One of the biggest mistakes in youth sports? Comparing players to each other.

Every athlete develops at a different pace. The same coaching tip or lesson might click instantly for one player, while another needs time, reps, and patience. That doesn’t mean one is “better”—it just means they’re on different timelines.

Growth in softball isn’t linear, and it’s definitely not one-size-fits-all.

Instead of comparing players side by side, let’s focus on tracking each athlete’s individual progress—their improvements, their milestones, their journey.

Because every young player is unique. And development should be measured against who they were yesterday, not who someone else is today. 🥎

This video has been floating around and at first it's entertaining and kind of funny. But if you think about it...

Why didn't she move? Is this actually a great display of ultimate unselfish play and team first mentality? The majority of players would avoid this slow rolling pitch so they could stay in the batter's box and hit.

However, we all know how difficult this game can be especially at the highest level. Base runners are paramount in scoring runs, ultimately making this an exceptionally unselfish play.

has shown that there is a new way to recruit an offensive lineup and it shows. But is the best overall metric for winning?

The game is changing. Power and driving the ball deep has shifted to the main focus while small ball has taken the secondary role.

Both are still critical to offensive balance, strategy and winning but rather than small ball dominant, it's now big hit dominant.

What are your thoughts? Good or bad for the game? What caused the shift? Is the swing down at the ball vs getting on plane and slight upswing part of it? Has baseball played a role?

Brinley has been tremendous all season. Her pitching has come so naturally! She's killing it catching, pitching, anywhere on the Infield and definitely at the plate.
