Points Race #3 is in the books for Camryn Blackshere Racing, and today definitely tested us before we even hit the track.
Going up for qualifying, the starter would not disengage. We had to unhook the starter wire in staging just to make it out in time for qualifying, but not before it burnt up the starter switch. Unfortunately our spare switch must have gotten taken out of the trailer, and nobody around us had one either. Dad ended up pulling the switch off his own car, forcing him to scratch for the night so we could keep Camryn on track.
We qualified 16th out of 19 cars — not where we wanted to be, but we kept digging.
In the heat race, Camryn started 6th and finished 6th. He stayed patient and kept the car clean, but just couldn’t find a way around the 5th place car that was moving around all over in front of him.
For the main event, Camryn rolled off 14th. Early on he dropped back to 18th while avoiding a big pile up in front of him. Everyone kept going, but he got forced way up the track and lost several spots. He worked his way back up to 12th before another pile up happened. While checking up to avoid the wreck, the leader slipped by and put us a lap down. Then on the next restart another car flipped, and all lap cars were sent to the back. Unfortunately they did not line the lap cars up in the correct order, costing us another position and leaving us with a 13th place finish.
At the end of the night, the car was still in one piece and we even got some extra hot laps in with the car set up wingless as we prepare for Camryn’s next wingless race. Every week we continue learning, improving, and getting more comfortable behind the wheel.
