It all started with a little red toy, a model of Brandy Brown's father's ARCA stock car. The model car was a replica of Holland, Michigan-based oval track racer, Scott Baker. Baker was a well-liked and a crowd favorite especially when he raced in the West Michigan area. Baker died in a tragic racing accident in 2000 at Toledo Motor Speedway at a major ARCA event.

Back to the red toy car. Brandy had it on a shelf and took it down for her granddaughter. Brandy thought she would enjoy playing with it for a bit. Which she did. Brandy talked about that her great grandpa in Heaven drove a race car that looked like that. That is when Brandy's husband Joe Brown saw the A&A mfg. logo on the trunk lid of Baker's #7 stock car. I have posted a picture of the model car.

Joe is on my 10-car drag racing team at Phil Veldheer Racing, based in Holland. AA mfg. is a company based in Spring Lake, MI and the manufacturer chassis parts for race cars.

I sent the photo of the red model car to the owners of AA mfg., Jim and Gina Fairbanks. AA mfg. is a long-time sponsor of my 10-car team and also great friends.

Jim called me and offered an amazing gift, it was a large memory board with several autographed photos that were given by Scott Baker to Larry, the previous owner of AA mfg. Scott and Larry were good friends, and this memory board had been hanging up in the office that Larry/Jim occupied. Jim offered it to Brandy. I asked Brandy if she was interested and after saying yes, I went to Spring Lake the next day to pick it up. I have posted a picture of Jim and Gina

The next photo shows me handing the board to Brandy and Joe Brown while drag racing this past weekend at US 131 MSP. It was a happy and misty eyes moment for Brandy.

If you look closely at Joe's VP sponsored S-10 race truck, you can see an AA mfg. sticker, just like Scott had.

Racing was canceled today, Sunday, August 30th so I can tell you about our 2nd annual Racers Pit Party. Last year we had seven PREVOST customers, along with their Prevost coaches from my daughter and son-in-law's business, Panterra Luxury Coach. This year, they were tied up with a new convention that was held in Tennessee for a week. So we decided to invite racing people only.

Originally planned for two weeks ago, but that weekend was canceled both days. Yesterday was a great day for a pit party.

Joe Brown's wife, Brandy Brown was the leader again of our event and it was perfect again this year. Lots of planning and lots of work on her part just to prepare for this event. We had a lot of help with other team member drivers and their wife's. Several guests also pitched in by bringing salads, desserts, fruits and veggies. The MAIN meal was BBQ on buns, and the meat came from one of our sponsors, EARL'S Meats in Holland. Brandy has a secret recipe for “Hartford Motor Speedway BBQ” and it was great. Beverages were from another sponsor, Dr. Pepper/Snapple/7up etc. Core Water, I think was the number one choice yesterday.

When the day was over, we drew names out of a basket for two beautiful door prizes, One adult and one child. Julie Jones won the adult prize and Wade Howard won the child's prize. But he was sleeping so Dalton picked it up.

We had help moving all the picnic tables back to under the bleachers and packing everything up. The food was calculated perfectly as we had just small amounts of everything remaining.

Thanks to our friends who showed up, to all the people who brought assorted dishes to share, to all the people that helped set up and tear down the area. It was appreciated. Look over the photos and when you see the one with Brandy and myself holding up three fingers, that means she agreed to do it again next year.

Saturday, August 29th team results-US131 MSP.

Donnie Hagar in the AA mfg Vega made it to round 7, the final three race cars in no box.

The rest of the team went rounds and several entered box and no box.

At the track were Joe Brown in the VP truck, Stan Jones in the VP lubricants Corvette, Ken Bosch in the AA mfg Roadster,Mark Howard in the Hard Blok Mustang, Billy Brown in the HES Equipment truck, Tim Howard in his Mopar,and Veldheer in the Hard Blok / VP Camaro

Racing continues Sunday with another points race. Two more next weekend and the points racing will be done for the season

Thanks to everyone who came to our 2nd Annual Racers Party. Thanks to all the workers, helpers and people who brought assorted food and desserts. Photos are being compiled and posted in a couple days. Two beautiful door prizes were also awarded. Brandy Brown has agreed to host the event again in 2027. The food was delicious and we had just the right amount.

My video girl, granddaughter, Taylor Tilton said right after we did episode #3, "do you want to do another video" I thought for a second and said "yes"

I am still wiping the grease off my hands when the camera is rolling. I am not bragging in this video; I am still amazed that the kid who started drag racing 59 years has through years of hard work, has built this 10-car team. Not a team of friends, but a team of the best racers around that have become friends.

Then on top of it, get the entire team backed by several sponsors, including one the most hardcore racing companies in the WORLD, VP !!

They used to call me Mr. VP when we talked on the phone, now it is SIR VP. I think it's funny. A good friend said that VP was really named after my initials backwards.

Saturday at US 131 MSP will be my first time in my Hard Blok Camaro in many years. I set 6 IHRA World Records in it, and did pretty good racing it. Then I put Mark Howard behind the wheel and several major event wins happened. Mark will be driving the Hard Blok Mustang in the same class.

I enjoyed top bulb racing in my black 442 and have done pretty in that car.

Then I get the idea to drive the Camaro myself this weekend, off the bottom bulb. We found 30 horsepower over the winter!

I am anxious to try the new Santuff front shocks that Tony Goodman installed that eliminate the front end bounce when you land from the wheelstand.

I keep telling myself bottom bulb- bottom bulb. I can’t make the test and tune Friday, so it’s one time trial Saturday morning and we’ll see what happens.

You have to shift it in the air, so I just installed a little white line on my tachometer. I plan on installing an air shifter over the winter on this car.

A few photos from the big car show they had in Hamilton yesterday.

Mark Howard is his track championship winning Hard Blok Mustang driven to the show. His son, Dalton Howard in his cool looking VP jr. Dragster. Dalton’s grandfather, Tim Howard also had his crowd favorite Mopar there.

Racing action returns this coming weekend at US 131 MSP as we will have nine team cars racing.
