I hear it all the time.

But when you really sit back and look at someone’s actions, sometimes they want the black belt… but they don’t want to do the things that create a black belt.

They want the belt, but not the early mornings.

They want the belt, but not the uncomfortable rounds.

They want the belt, but not the consistency.

They want the belt, but not the days when they’re tired, frustrated, sore, or just don’t feel like training.

They want the result—but they aren’t willing to commit to the process.

The truth is, you don’t become a black belt by wanting to be one.

You become a black belt by showing up over and over again.

By getting your ass kicked and coming back.

By learning from your mistakes.

By staying committed when progress feels slow.

By doing the boring things, the hard things, and the uncomfortable things for years.

The belt is simply the physical representation of thousands of decisions to keep going.

So if you really want to be a black belt, stop thinking about the belt.
