2026 Five Day Mount Washington Valley Ice Leader Seminar

Jan 26-30, 2026 $1250pp 4 person max

This is the premier ice climber learn to lead program in the North East.

This program is intended for novice and intermediate level ice climbers who desire to gain more experience and learn hard skills with modern best practices for ice climbing. We will emphasize movement skills, which are a foundation for security while climbing (arguably the most important skill), anchors and belay considerations, rappel considerations, hazard recognition and mitigation strategies, single and multi pitch systems, an introduction to fixed point leader belays, and more!
No lead experience required. We will be working up our skills in anticipation of a lead towards the end of our week.
Prerequisites:
- [ ] 1 season of climbing on top ropes and/following leads (about 15 days overall)
- [ ] Able to comfortably climb grade 3+/4 ice
- [ ] Able to walk in crampons on firm, frozen snow up to 30 degrees
- [ ] Basic working knowledge of climbing knots and hitches
- [ ] Own most or all own equipment (we’ve got loaner stuff but you’ll want your own by the time you’re ready to lead)
- [ ] Genuine interest in learning skills and improving at ice climbing
Lodging and meals are your responsibility. The Mount Washington Valley has numerous options for everyones tastes. We have found this strategy to work well.
We will bring the ropes, knowledge, curriculum and stoke!
We will meet daily at a predetermined MWV location for a briefing and then depart.
Please email to register or with questions. We also welcome phone conversations. I’ve been doing this for many years now, and I’ve got the formula figured out.
