Amateur Challenge Tournament (The ACT)

Amateur Challenge Tournament (The ACT) Amateur Disc Golf Tournament - http://www.actdg.com What is the Amateur Challenge? But hey, they are the guys throwing the best out there!

The ACT is a tournament born of the idea that Amateur disc golfers should be catered to – after all, there are far more of them then there are Pro level golfers out there! While most tournaments allow, accept, and encourage Amateurs to participate, many of the attention at most events is focused on the Pros. What we wanted to create in New England was an event that spoke exclusively to the Amateur

players of the sport. The ACT tries to introduce Amateur players to the experience of playing singles in a competitive, yet still relaxed and fun, environment.

Hey ACT followers, I'll try to keep this brief... I'm hoping the disc golf community can show some support for someone who needs it right now, and has been good to our community in the past. If you have the ability to donate to her gofundme, I know it would help her out quite a lot. Link is in the original post shared here. And feel free to share! Thanks!!

April is the owner of A Hero's Legacy Comics & Collectibles in Manchester and took over the comic shop from Brian "BUC" Kozicki when he passed away. If you don't know BUC, you may recall his memorial bench and plantings on Hole 16 at Wickham. Brian always did what he could to support the disc golf community (among other groups) and April has continued that spirit by donating comic packs to the ACT and other Wickham events every. single. year that she has owned the shop when we've asked her for help.

If you made it this far... thanks for reading. And hopefully you can help. Cheers! :)

Hi my name is April I am finding this because I am a small business o… April Policki needs your support for Help April continue to keep her comic store alive

Last minute housekeeping/notes for everyone!

1) Remember that Randy's Wooster St will be taking food orders in the morning! Order before Rd1, have your food show up for the lunch break!

2) *Masks will be required at check-in*, so please remember to bring them! We understand that not everyone has been fully vaccinated yet, so out of respect for everyone please mask up when you're at Tournament Central. Thank you in advance!

3) In a similar vein, we'll have some discs for sale during the day and Firefly will also be providing adult beverages for the 21+ crowd. PLEASE use the nearby provided hand sanitizer before touching any shared items like discs, coolers or cans!

4) Rather than a throw-off competition to win a basket this year, we will be doing a RAFFLE instead! Tickets will be available before the tournament and during the lunch break. Huge thank you to Connecticut Disc Golf for providing one of the baskets!

5) It looks like it will be warm this weekend, make sure to bring plenty of liquid! "Hydrate or die-drate", as the cool kids say (or so I'm told)

Pic for attention: can't wait to see everyone this weekend!

LAYOUTS! It's been asked a few times (understandably) so here's a copy of the intended layout for the tournament date for anyone who wants to practice before the big day. Not all pin positions are available all the time on the course (the baskets get physically moved over lunch break on 13, 14, 17, 18) but you can always scout out the alternate sleeves if you're walking around.

Round 1:
- All divisions play the course from its standard layout, except 2, 3 & 4.
- Hole 2 will play to the LEFT basket. Hole 3 plays the alternate layout along the bottom of the hill, Hole 4 will play uphill from the alternate tee.
- Players in the MA3/FW3 (men/women Amateur) divisions should play the alternate (shorter) tees on holes 1, 6, 8 and 11.

Round 2:
- All divisions will play the following layout: STANDARD (right) basket on hole 2; Standard Holes 3 & 4; Long tee on hole 5; Long basket on hole 7; Alternate tee for hole 8; Alternate basket on hole 9; Alternate basket on hole 13; Alternate basket on hole 14; Alternate basket on hole 15; Alternate basket on hole 17; Basket is located in “tournament position” (across the street) on hole 18.
- Players in the MA3/FW3 (men/women Amateur) divisions should play the alternate (shorter) tees on holes 1, 3, 6, 7 (marked in the field for the event) and 11.

Registration opens at 7pm tonight, Sunday 5/16 on DiscGolfScene! Here are the links if you need a hand getting there.

PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE make sure you sign up for the correct day you want to play. As always, players can only play on one day NOT BOTH, and it's a headache for me AND you if YOU screw it up. Make sure you sign up for the right day!

If you want a fundraiser disc for this year's tournament, the only way to GUARANTEE you get one is to add it along with your sign up at registration! We will have a VERY limited supply of discs available the weekend of the event for those who do not pre-purchase one - and once they're gone, they're gone forever!

*tap tap* ...is this thing on? Due to the state of the world, the ACT is going to a look a little different this year and has been a challenge to get our logistics in order, but we ARE officially happening! Registration is planned to open Sunday night, 5/16, at 7pm on DiscGolfScene. More details to come! Thanks for bearing with us everyone - can't wait to see everyone in a few short weeks!

Due to COVID-19, The ACT will not be happening in 2020. I know this is not surprising to most people but we still wanted to make it "facebook official". And yes, this is not "postponed until later this year" - we're taking the year off.

We're just as bummed as everyone about the current state of things right now, but a number of factors weighed heavily in ensuring that there was little to no chance of being able to host the event in June. All of the MANY logistics aside (not the least of which being whether Wickham would be open on time, or many of our vendor warehouses being closed), we decided that WE wouldn't feel like we were acting in everyone's best interests by hosting an event with 90+ people on site per day, even if social guidelines began to lift by then or if the state of CT would allow an organized event of our size by then.

Stay safe out there everyone! Throw straight, throw far, and try to bring at least 1 new person out on the course with you this year!
