WTF?? (What’s that fish?) Please feel free to comment or add your own photos. This small, creamy yellow reef fish glows softly against Caribbean coral backdrops. Typically, they are 3–5 inches long, it has a smooth, unbarred body with subtle dusky markings near the tail and a distinctive dark saddle blotch that helps set it apart. They favor calm, shallow reefs where they hover with a poised, almost statuesque stillness before making quick, precise lunges at tiny crustaceans and fish larvae. Their gentle coloration and unhurried movements make them a favorite find for divers exploring sunlit patch reefs. Anyone care to guess their name?

Join us in congratulating Phil on completing his Drysuit Diver certification! He completed this class in order to squeeze in the last few Lake Michigan dives this season. He plans to use his drysuit when he moves to Boston and hopes to take up cave diving in Florida in the near future!

Fred just completed his Nitrox certification with us! He was just on a weeklong dive trip to Bonaire with his daughter and son-in-law where the shop had Nitrox available...but, Fred wasn't certified. He realized how tired he was compared to his daughter and son-in-law (who both were Nitrox certified and using the gas on every dive) so as soon as he got home, he decided to sign up! He doesn’t have his next trip booked yet, but hopes to go somewhere this Spring!

We teach Nitrox classes the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, or they can be scheduled on demand. Just complete the elearning online and call the shop once you're done and we'll get you scheduled into a class.

Congratulations to our final group of Open Water certifications for the 2026 Season! Jacob, Anthony, Bean, Sara, and Justin completed their training with us up at Lake Wazee. They had AWESOME visibility, relatively warm conditions, and had plenty of time to swim around see all of the fun underwater features! A bit of a drive, but everyone seemed to feel it was worth the dashboard time to go up there! Big thanks to Andy for taking his camera along and snap these fun shots!

This week’s fish is a compact, vividly patterned reef fish found throughout the Caribbean with the largest individuals approaching 6 inches. Its body is marked by alternating dark and pale vertical bars that give it a crisp, high contrast look against coral and sponge habitats. They tend to hover close to the reef, making short, deliberate dashes as they hunt small crustaceans and fish larvae. They’re also famously calm around divers—often holding their position as if posing—making them a favorite sight for anyone exploring warm, shallow reefs. Anyone care to guess their name?

Who wants to try their hand at Underwater Pumpkin carving? It's loads fun and our divers have been so creative over the years! Join us at Lake Wazee this coming Saturday, October 31 for our Annual Pumpkin dive! We'll meet at the Bluegill Alley Entry at 10AM. 🎃👻

Bring a pumpkin to carve, any tools you think might help you carve to win, and an extra lead weight to keep the pumpkin from floating away! Need rental gear - no problem! We're extending our group rate price of $35 for anything and all that you might need. The water is still very nice and clear, and last weekend it was in the mid- 60s - which is unseasonable warm!

Take advantage of this late season dive get together. Get one more practice session in before winter inevitable shows up! This is a PERFECT activity for new divers- but fun for everyone.
