’Twas the night before snapper season, and deep in the Gulf below,
The snapper gathered nervously, speaking in whispers low.

“What’s the problem?” a young fish asked. “Why’s everyone on edge?”
An old red snapper sighed and peeked over the ledge.

“Haven’t you heard? It’s opening day tomorrow, my friend.
And Josh and Matt are coming back again.”

A murmur spread through the reef. A few fish turned pale.
Others started discussing an emergency relocation plan in detail.

“They’ve been doing this for years,” one snapper said with a groan.
“They show up with a cooler of beer and somehow make the whole Gulf feel like home.”

Back on shore, the beers were cold and the excitement was high,
As dreams of bent rods and big red snapper filled the night sky.

The fish held one last vote before dawn broke in the east:
“Should we move deeper?” “Should we hide?” “Should we postpone the feast?”

The oldest snapper shook his head. “Boys, let’s be realistic. We all know the drill.
When Josh and Matt show up on opener, somebody’s ending up on the grill.”

And with that, the reef fell silent, accepting its fate at last—
Because opening day with Josh and Matt has become a Gulf Coast tradition that lasts.
