Last night the Otters hosted their end of season banquet at C**n Lk Park. Unfortunately, I don’t have many photos other than the couple I had sent to me. Skylar Welch and Blake Melin received All Conference Honorable Mention. Skylar batted .294 with a HR and fielded with a .978 playing 2nd base. Blake hit .333 with 2 HR’s coming back from a torn ACL. Austin Schmidt, Mason Carter, and Riley Cummings all earned All Conference 2nd Tm. Austin played exceptionally well at SS, batting .367 with a .494 OBP. Mason batted .349 with 2HR’s with a .481 OBP. Riley batted .348 with a .552 OBP and lead the team with 19 SB’s in a season shortened by a broken collarbone. And Tate Johnson received All Conference 1st Tm batting .492 with a .551 OBP and a phenomenal .820 SLG. Tate hit 3 HR’s and had 24 RBI’s to lead the team. Skylar earned Most Improved Player, the first time I’ve ever handed that out. Tate earned Offensive Player of the Year, and Mason Carter earned the team MVP award voted on by the Asst Coaches for his leadership by example. As a team we batted .294, had an overall .431 OBP, .433 SLG, and hit 11 HR’s. We will come back healthy, hungry and fine tune our pitching to play very competitive baseball next season. The night culminated with a friendly softball game against the Otters Softball program. Thank you to all of our parents and fans for supporting us through good times and bad this year!!

Our season came to an end tonight in Mellen as we lost 10-9. But I am beaming with pride at how these boys battled. Down two key starters, arriving 30 minutes late due to an unknown bridge closure, these young men fought hard and cheered each other on every pitch, every hit, and every play in the field. Tate Johnson, Mason Carter, Caiden Johnson, and Skylar Welch all lead us at the plate. All 9 fielders played exceptionally well in the field. They left it all on the field and wore their hearts on their sleeves. Coaching staff couldn’t be prouder!!

Tonight’s win over Siren in the first round of playoffs was an overall team effort. While our pitchers allowed a few too many free passes, Tate Johnson and Austin Schmidt combined to throw a no hitter. And they combined to strikeout 11 hitters. At the plate we were led by Mason Carter, Tate Johnson, and Blake Melin who all hit home runs. Carter led the team with 3 RBI’s. Tate was 3-3 overall and Schmitty was 3-4 overall. Final score was 11-4. Next we travel to Mellen for Rd 2 on Tuesday at 5:00. Thank you to all our fans who poured into the ballpark to show support. Logan Lindquist received the hat for his enthusiasm and perfection keeping stats once again. And Mason Carter received the chain for his hustle and endurance working behind the plate. Lastly, I want to congratulate our starters for again fielding well with no errors. That’s an important stat that often gets overlooked.

Thank you to everyone who came out last night to recognize our Senior, Mason Carter. We lost to Glenwood City but there were a couple positives. Blake Melin made his season debut on the mound in relief. Blake has worked hard to return from his torn ACL. At the plate, we were led by Tate Johnson, Austin Schmidt, and Skylar Welch who all had extra base hits, and our outfield played very well. Tomorrow we host Siren for the first round of playoffs at 5:00

Get to the ball park early for Tuesday’s game as we will be paying our respects to our lone Senior, #8, Mason Carter for Senior Night! It’ll be tough for coach, that’s for sure.

Outstanding win against Northwood/Solon Springs. Won 13-2 in 5 innings. Blake Melin earned Player of the game going 3-3 with a HR and 5 RBI’s. Austin Schmidt earned Pitcher of the Game throwing all 5 innings. But all of the boys played with fire tonight. Our infield turned another DP and Becker was a force at 3rd. It was also nice to see our bunt game return to form. Next up-Glenwood City at home Tuesday where we will honor our lone Senior, Mason Carter

Nice win in Clear Lk today 6-4. Tate Johnson was shoving on the mound going 6 1/3 innings to earn the win and pitcher of the game. Austin Schmidt came in and finished to earn the save. Mason Carter led us at the plate to earn Player of the Game. Our lone senior was 3-4 with 3 RBI’s. Next up- Northwoods/Solon Spring on Thursday in Solon.

Lost to our conference rivals Webster tonight despite hitting very well. 5 players who I’d like to mention- Cole Hohlfeld continues to impress in the outfield. Skylar Welch continues in my humble opinion to be the best fielding second baseman in the conference. Blake Melin hit extremely well today with 3 hits. Landen Becker pitched outstanding in relief today going 2.1 innings and allowing 0 earned runs. And sophomore Landon Holdt hit a double for his first varsity hit. Next up- Clear Lake on Tuesday in Clear Lake.

Well, we lost handily at the hands of Turtle Lk/Clayton at home tonight. Schmitty threw well off the mound, we simply didn’t make plays in the field. Mason Carter led the way at the plate with a 2-run home run. And Skylar Welch was lights out at second again. But the worst part was losing another team captain to a broken bone. It’s up to the team to rally around our injured players and pick each other up. Next up- Webster on Thursday
