Big Fifth Inning Leads Lowell Angels Past BTown Cubs

Lowell Angels BBA defeated BTown Cubs 13-1 on Thursday at Mt Vernon Park Lawrence thanks in part to seven runs in the fifth inning. Alex Koppelman singled, scoring two runs, Andrew Sawyer singled, scoring one run, Ian Pylkkanen was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Alec Irardi singled, scoring two runs, and Brian Reyes singled, scoring one run.
Lowell Angels opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to three walks. Lowell Angels first got on the board when Alex Koppelman drew a walk, scoring one run.
Lowell Angels added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Eric Bosworth flew out, and , each scoring one run.
Brian Reyes earned the win for Lowell Angels BBA. The hurler allowed one hit and one run over four innings, striking out eight and walking six. Gio Abreu led things off on the hill for BTown Cubs. The pitcher surrendered eight hits and 13 runs (12 earned) over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking 11. Brad Pontes tossed one inning of shutout ball for Lowell Angels in relief. The right-handed pitcher surrendered zero hits, striking out two and walking two.
Alex Koppelman and Alec Irardi each drove in two runs for Lowell Angels . Xavier Nunez led Lowell Angels BBA with two hits in three at bats. Johnny Macdonald paced Lowell Angels BBA with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up 11 walks for the game. Johnny Macdonald and Xavier Nunez each stole multiple bases for Lowell Angels BBA.
