Race day recap:
First off, we want to thank everyone who called, texted or commented on Drew’s page wishing him luck and encouragement. It definitely lifted his spirits after qualifying.
During qualifying Drew hit a bump in the track which flattened his tire. He immediately lost speed and was passed. He je**ed a little too hard when the kart was going around him, and spun out. Not sure he would have qualified any better than he did if he hadn’t spun out since the tire was flat. He qualified 11th out of 11 karts.
Once it was feature time, Drew was pumped up and ready to dig. The flag officials were a big mess. The race started off on the wrong foot with the flag man throwing the green flag with the last few karts no where close to the rest of the field. Drew slowly dug his way up to 4th and held that position for several laps before a bump knocked him loose. The end of the race was a big mess. According to race monitor Drew finished 9th out of 11 karts.
We are so proud of him! Not only was this his first big race in green plate, but it was the most competition he has ever raced against. After a day full of unfortunate luck he ran a solid race and finished in the top 10. He had fun and he did his best. We couldn’t ask for anything more. We will be taking a couple of weeks off and be back at it again for the next points race at Godspeed Raceway!
