Little Ninjas is a high-energy, fun-filled Jiu-Jitsu program designed specifically for young kids.

We use games, movement and play to introduce kids to the fundamentals of Jiu-Jitsu, while helping them build skills that carry over into everyday life.

Good times also on Tuesday evening, when we were visited again by our friend Luke Boston (fellow BJJ black belt and owner of Forte Jiu-Jitsu in Phoenix, Arizona) and his sister Cat Lacosse.

I taught a competition takedown off from a collar tie, as well as some finer points of finishing an Americana/Keylock.

Luke stayed for open mat and let a few of my students (try to 😆) beat him up!

Sweat and laughter were had by all!

Catching up on some recent events:

Last weekend Andrew Hageman and I participated in two days of the (always) outstanding training given by Grandmaster Joe Moreira, down at Combate Real School of Jiu-Jitsu in Southbridge, Massachusetts.

Many thanks again to our host Allen Lima, and his students for their always warm and friendly welcome!

Guard passing into top control positions was the focus (my favorite game) and we came away with some new gold nugget details to make things not just more effective, but more efficient.

There is no other Jiu-Jitsu like Joe Moreira Jiu-Jitsu. I have the best teacher on the planet!

Andrew and I joined Master Joe, Allan and his daughter for lunch after training on Saturday, and introduced Andrew to some authentic Brazilian BBQ. It was sooooo good!

Good times!!

I 100% agree.

🥋 “I THINK I DESERVE MY BLUE BELT…”

One of the first lessons Jiu-Jitsu teaches us is that progress and promotion are not the same thing.

You may be improving.
You may tap higher belts sometimes.
You may train consistently.
You may know the techniques.
You may even feel ready.

But a belt is not something we give ourselves.

A promotion represents much more than winning rounds. It reflects technical development, consistency, attitude,loyalty,discipline, character, understanding of Jiu-Jitsu, and readiness for the responsibilities of the next level.

Your instructor sees things you may not see yet.

So instead of asking:

“When am I getting my blue belt?”

Ask:

“What do I need to improve today?”

Focus on getting better, not getting promoted.

When the time is right, the belt will come.
