Last year, we started as a boy with a dream and two parents wanting to make that dream come true. We didn't have experience in go kart racing. We didn't know the people who have been around for generations. We didn't have the knowledge or connection.
We are still learning every weekend and we still don't have a team working on his kart. But what we have gained is far more important than winning. We have friends at the track, we have others supporting, advising, and cheering for KJ, we have people excited to see KJ/us every race day and to learn about life outside of racing.
Racing isn't all about competing. These boys and girls compete almost every weekend. But what they are gaining is far more important than how many wins or losses they have. They are learning about life, how to be good people, how to adapt, how to work hard, and how to show up for themselves and each other.
Yes, we cheer loud for our racer but we also cheer for our friends and their kids racing. We want each race to be competitive. We want each pass to be clean. We want each time they're out on the track for them to do better than they did last time. We want them all to have fun, learn life, and come home safe at the end of the night.
Racing might be a competition but at the end of the day medals and trophies gather dust; friendship, values, morals, sportsmanship, heart are the things that memories are created from.
