Back in the Spring we were awarded a USA Archery 3D target grant. To show off those targets, we will be hosting a 3-D fun shoot on Sept. 26th from 3pm to 6pm.

This will be a static 3-D set up with a fixed shooting line and numbered targets. This will look similar to an indoor 3-D set up but will be outside on the ball field by our building. This will be a great time to set your bow sighted in for bow hunting season. We will use the ASA known distances for equipment types. Targets will be marked.

We would love for you to join us.

Coach Fletch Tip Tuesday!

For a beginner, the acronyms in competitive archery can quickly feel like alphabet soup. Each organization caters to different archery disciplines, shooting styles, and end goals.

| Organization | Core Focus | Primary Target Types | Who It’s Great For |
|---|---|---|---|
| USA Archery | Olympic & Target Archery | Concentric color-ring paper targets | Archers aiming for precise target forms, JOAD youth programs, and potential Olympic/Paralympic paths. |

| NFAA (National Field Archery Assoc.) | Field, Indoor, & Marked 3D | Blue 5-spot faces, Vegas 3-spot, field targets, 3D animals | Bowhunters and target shooters who like variety, field courses through the woods, and year-round indoor leagues. |

| ASA (Archery Shooters Assoc.) | 3D Archery | Foam life-sized animal targets with scoring rings | Hunters and compound shooters who love outdoor woodland courses, distance estimation, and local Pro/Am events. |

| S3DA (Scholastic 3D Archery) | Youth Progression (3D, Target, Bowhunting) | 3D animals, indoor/outdoor paper faces | School-aged youth (under 18) looking to build skills, learn bowhunting ethics, and earn college archery scholarships. |

Breakdown of the Major Differences
* Target Styles: USA Archery focuses almost exclusively on standard round target faces (like the multi-colored 10-ring target). ASA focuses on foam 3D animal targets (deer, bear, turkey). NFAA blends both with its famous blue-face indoor targets, Vegas faces, and outdoor field/hunter targets.

* Distance Estimation: USA Archery and most NFAA indoor rounds shoot at fixed, known distances. ASA features "unknown yardage" classes where you must judge the target distance by eye before shooting.

* Youth Focus: S3DA is tailored specifically to school-age archers to bridge the gap between recreational shooting, 3D/bowhunting, and collegiate scholarship opportunities. USA Archery operates JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development) for youth focused on structured Olympic or compound target paths.

Beginner Strategy: Start at your local shop or range to see which organization’s events they host most frequently. Many archers hold memberships in multiple organizations as they explore different styles of shooting!
