Our men travelled to Las Vegas for the USSSA Men’s E West Worlds at Big League Dreams to compete with some of the best teams in the country. We battled not only the fierce competition but the insane heat topping out at 110 degrees.
We started off game one on the Wrigley field vs Next Level (NV) it took us a little bit to get the bats rolling but the defense was lockdown. With a small lead in the bottom of the 5th we finally figured out the bats and put the game away 17-6.
Up next was Dark Horse (UT). It was a low scoring affair, we had the hammer but couldn’t seem to figure out their defense. After a short rally at the end, we fell 12-7 to the eventual hill team/runner up for the tourney.
On Saturday we returned to the Angels field to face Tripod (UT). We got out to an early lead and never gave it up. Handling business 19-8 for our second run rule of the weekend.
After a one game break we faced Angels (AZ) on Yankee Field. (Yes the team from the video you’ve probably already seen.) With the sun facing directly at the batters box both team struggled to hit with the game being 0-0 after 3 innings. Angles broke the scoring open with 3-runs in the 4th and another in the 5th to make it 4-0. The sun went down and after 7 innings we were tied 6-6 thanks to some bottom of 7 theatrics. The game stayed tight all the way to the end of the 10th where we would eventually lose 9-8. Bringing our weekend to an anticlimactic close.
This is not the result we wanted from this weekend. But we hold our heads high knowing that we never quit on any game and battled to the last out. We look forward to what comes next for WTP Men’s. We will see you at John Kings on Saturday… we mean Friday.
