We are excited to introduce Matt Ferguson as Frozen Ropes 307’s newest trainer!
Matt Ferguson has nearly two decades of playing and coaching experience combined. While growing up in Gillette, Wyoming, Matt played baseball from t-ball through High School, ending with the Post 42 Legion Program.
Matt moved to Laramie in 2005 to get his BA in Psychology at the University of Wyoming. Matt continued his baseball career with the UW Club Baseball Team in 2011, playing primarily catcher and outfielder. For the past 3 years Matt has been helping his son’s Laramie Regulators travel team as a catching coach.
Matt aims to help Laramie baseball and softball players improve in the immediate to help their current team during their season, in addition to long term improvement which hopefully leads to collegiate careers. Matt specializes in catching, infielding, and hitting.
In addition to skills and fundamentals, Matt helps players with the mental aspect of the game, building confidence and a deeper understanding of baseball. He’s also willing to assist parents and give advice if needed as they guide their athlete through this game. His coaching philosophy is based in the fact that baseball is a very difficult game. It requires patience, hard work, and positivity to advance in the game of baseball. It’s also important to create a fun atmosphere while training because let’s not forget, it is a game!
In 2021, Matt joined the Laramie Fire Department and works there to this day as a Firefighter. His career as a Firefighter has provided more experience for leadership and mentorship. He consistently instructs at the Wyoming Fire Academy as well.
