Monthly reminder.

It’s a really good idea to retain control of the brake strand while belaying. Even with a GriGri.

Keep a hand on the brake strand, or add a blocking knot if you need to go hands-free.

Climbers get away with bad habits again and again, until one weird moment turns into an accident.

Assisted braking does not mean hands-free.

The mule overhand.

In this context with a Munter (MMO), it becomes a powerful tool for managing load. A solid understanding of basic load transfers is foundational for rescue systems, belay escapes, and controlled transitions.

Simple hitches. Critical function.

Have questions about footwear for Gannett Peak? 🥾

Boot choice matters—glacier travel, mixed terrain, long approaches, and all factor in. If you’re unsure what works best for current conditions or your experience level, let’s talk. We’re always happy to help you dial it in.

First-Aid / Trauma kits for wilderness environments.

It’s far more likely you’ll need a kit on the drive to the crag than while actually climbing. Better to have it and not need it.

Stay realistic about the injuries you’re likely to encounter—and what you can reasonably carry to treat them. The goal isn’t a full medical setup, but life-saving tools paired with a small “boo-boo” kit that actually gets used.

Prepared beats lucky. Every time.
