With the coldest temperatures of the season to date beginning Thursday night through Sunday, this is a reminder that everyone is at risk from the dangers of extreme cold but the following groups are more vulnerable than most: newborn infants, elderly, chronically ill, outdoor workers, and the unhoused. Dress in loose layers and cover all exposed skin, limit or avoid time outdoors, consume hot food and warm drinks but avoid caffeine and alcohol, and above all, check on your family, friends, and neighbors.
Coldest air so far this winter season is expected to overspread the upper Great Lakes Thursday night and Friday. Bitter cold will continue through the weekend…with wind chills below zero through Sunday morning. High temperatures Friday likely to remain below zero across the Upper Peninsula.
