Our “Red, White & Bluebirdies for Cancer Care” fundraiser was held on Thursday, July 16, 2026 and was one of our most successful events ever, despite the smoke from the wildfires making another issue this year! We raised $2,484 which is being donated to Baraga County Home Care and Hospice for the care of local cancer patients. We had 79 ladies signed up with 73 women participating last night, with 9 of those choosing not to golf due to the smoke, but still joining us for dinner and prizes, and 6 others who signed up and were unable to be there, but still paid their entry fee to go towards the cause. The scramble was won by the team of, Brigette LaPointe, Mariah Dunham, Geneva Brennan and Sonja Evans with a score of 22 on the 7 holes played. An additional team comprised of Cele Koskinen, Julie Angle, Mary Mayo and Sally Koskinen had the same score, but after going back on holes, the former team was crowned the winners. The gimmick winners were as follows:
Longest drive on #2 - Anna Gaffney;
Closest to the Pin on #3 - Cele Koskinen; Shortest Drive on #7 - Victoria Tulppo
Longest Putt on #9 -Reide Osterman.

Cele Koskinen won the door prize - a beautiful Ping golf bag!

There are so many people we appreciate and want to thank! To all the businesses and individuals who donated baskets or made monetary donations (see separate post thank you for list) and to everyone who brought salads and desserts and who helped with setting up, cleaning up and helping in any way - THANK YOU! We couldn't do this event without you.

And also, a special thank you to the L'Anse Golf Club for letting us take over the golf course that night and for donating the use of the golf carts for this worthy cause! You are all so very appreciated!

For all who are wondering if our "Red, White and Bluebirdies for Cancer Care" is still on for tomorrow....YES, it is! We have received many calls, texts and messages regarding the status of the event. While the smoke and ash makes it difficult, we are unable to reschedule due to no remaining Thursdays being available. This is an important annual event for the purpose of supporting cancer care in Baraga County. We will have masks available if desired, for those who will be playing. If you don't feel comfortable playing and you have signed up, please come and join us for dinner, basket raffles and a chance at winning a great door prize. We hope you will still want to support this great event, even though we have to make changes when necessary. Thank you so much for your understanding and support!! We hope to see all of you tomorrow!!!

The L'Anse Golf Club 3-Woman Scramble is being held this year on Tuesday, August 11, 2026 and is being designated this year to honor the memory of two of our late beloved league members, Jean Kangas and Dodo Swartz.
