Dunn Leads Kutztown Cougars Senior Legion Past Topton/Oley Patriots (Sr)

Ashton Dunn collected three hits in four at bats, as Kutztown Cougars Senior Legion 18U defeated Topton/Oley Patriots (Sr) 18U 5-3 on Monday at 439 E Main St, Kutztown, PA 19530. Ashton Dunn hit a home run to right field in the sixth inning, tripled in the third inning, and singled in the fourth inning.

Kutztown Cougars Senior Legion 18U didn't take the lead until later in the game. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the sixth when Ashton Dunn homered to right field, scoring two runs.

Topton/Oley Patriots (Sr) 18U were the first to get on the board in the first when an error scored one run.

In the bottom of the second inning, Kutztown Cougars Senior Legion 18U went back into the lead after Dylan Thompson doubled to left field, and Danny Yearick singled down the right field line, each scoring one run.

Kutztown Cougars Senior Legion 18U added one run in the third after Chris Bergstrom singled down the left field line.

Hunter Yergey walked, which helped Topton/Oley Patriots (Sr) 18U tie the game at three in the top of the sixth.

Chris Bergstrom earned the win for Kutztown Cougars Senior Legion 18U. The hurler allowed two hits and three runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out seven and walking two. Liam Porter took the loss for Topton/Oley Patriots (Sr) 18U. The pitcher went five and one-third innings, giving up five runs on nine hits, striking out six and walking four. Colten Mathias collected the save.

Kaden Kerecz collected two hits for Kutztown Cougars Senior Legion 18U in three at bats.

Danny Dzikowski and Jake Franek each collected one hit for Topton/Oley Patriots (Sr) 18U. Jake Franek stole three bases.

Kutztown Cougars Senior Legion 18U welcome Reading Groundhogs on Thursday for their next game.

Since the 1930s, Kutztown has fielded a Legion Baseball team. For almost a century, a tremendous amount of effort and commitment has and continues to be put into Kutztown baseball, with the goal of providing an exceptional place for our youth to learn the lessons of the game and life. From the American Legion baseball program to the Kutztown Youth Athletic Association-KYAA that will celebrate its 60th anniversary this season, we all still focus on continuing that legacy.

Today there are more avenues than ever before for youth to play the game, but not one of those will foster the sense of pride and achievement that playing for your hometown with the friends you grew up with can create. It's place where you and your team's efforts and accolades will hang for generations to see and remember. A place where we all can return to.

Baseball has been at the center of the community through everything. Where when all come together in support of our players and team for common good and goals, that's where we are our best and most successful.

We hope to see everyone of our age eligible players and past players come March 28th and 29th. Alumni are welcome to come and support as well.

Players from the ages of 13 to 19 (within the dates provided below) will be evaluated to see where they are best fit to play and continue to grow within the organization from Babe Ruth up to Senior Legion.
