The Minges Wellness Center would like to congratulate the members of our 5th Get Real and Heel Cohort on graduating from the program! We are so proud of your hard work and dedication over that past 12 weeks!

For those that don’t know, Get Real and Heel is a free 12 week group exercise program open for cancer survivors and patients. If you are interested in Get Real and Heel please contact Minges Wellness Staff at 252-522-7944!

Rock Steady Boxing is turning 20 years old today! The Minges Wellness Center at UNC Health Lenoir is proud to be 1 of over 800 affiliates worldwide helping fight back against Parkinson's Disease. Since becoming an affiliate in February 2026, we have gained 17 individuals that show up twice a week to regain control of their life and improve their symptoms through exercise and non-contact boxing.

Over 90,000 individuals are diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease every year and the number is increasing rapidly. Men are 1.5 times more likely to develop Parkinson's than women, with the leading cause being environmental exposure. With evidence-based exercise curriculum, we target the symptoms that are caused by the onset of Parkinson's Disease and try to slow the progression of the disease.

We are proud to have such a hard-working and resilient group that has also blossomed into friendships that will last for the rest of their lives. Each individual has shown not only physical improvement, but emotional and mental as well. Rock Steady Boxing is not just an exercise class; it's an opportunity to gain friends and work together to have a positive impact on the quality of life each person has.

Sharon has been a delightful addition to our class and is a great motivator to all. She is our designated "enunciation enforcer" and always makes sure our boxers are speaking loudly and clearly! Tommy works hard in every class twice a week as well as four other days a week in the gym to make himself the best version of Tommy he can be!
