All of us at Lakeside Golf Course extend our deepest thoughts and prayers to the Slaven family as we mourn the loss of our friend and shareholder, Bud Slaven, who passed away on June 4, 2026.
Bud was a dedicated shareholder who cared deeply about the future of Lakeside and wanted to see it thrive for generations to come. He often said that Lakeside felt like a second home, and his passion for the course was evident. Bud played a key role in many of the improvements you see around the course today, and his vision will continue to influence projects and enhancements for years to come.
One of Bud’s greatest wishes was that Lakeside would always remain a golf course where his children, family, friends, and the people of Roane County could gather, play, and create lasting memories. He loved the game of golf and especially enjoyed participating in our Thursday Night Swats, which was one of the highlights of his week.
Each October, our Swat season concludes with the “Big Swat,” a championship event for those who have regularly participated throughout the season. Beginning this year and continuing in the years ahead, one member of the winning Big Swat team will be selected as the annual “Bud Slaven Swat Player of the Year.” Their name will be engraved on the Bud Slaven Memorial Plaque in our clubhouse as a lasting tribute to a man who gave so much to Lakeside and to the golf community he loved.
We also look forward to continuing our relationship with Casey, Sadie, Tripp, Charlotte, and Essie as we work together to ensure Lakeside remains the special place Bud envisioned—a second home for so many in our community.
Bud, you will be deeply missed, but your legacy will live on through the spirit of family, friendship, and community that you helped build here at Lakeside Golf Course. You will never be forgotten.
