Good advice from our friends at Woodside Equine Clinic
Horse show season is here and so is increased exposure to infectious disease. 🐴🦠
Practicing good biosecurity at shows helps protect not only your horse, but the entire equine community. A few simple habits can make a big difference:
✔️ Don’t share water buckets, hoses, or tack
✔️ Avoid nose-to-nose contact between horses
✔️ Monitor your horse’s temperature daily while traveling
✔️ Wash hands and disinfect equipment regularly
✔️ Keep vaccinations current before show season begins
✔️ Isolate and monitor any horse that seems “off” after returning home
Shows bring horses from many different farms and regions together, which increases the risk of disease spread, even when horses appear healthy. Staying proactive helps keep everyone safer and minimizes disruptions to your competition season.
