What is ISR??
ISR stands for “Infant Swimming Resource”, though, many have thought it stands for “Infant Self Rescue”- hence, why most think ISR only teaches self-rescue, or that we only teach babies… which couldn’t be further from the truth!
With ISR lessons, we teach these children a “swim-float-swim” sequence, it is the most efficient and successful way for children to be safe & competent in the water. Any parent could teach their child to swim to the wall, stairs, ladder, etc. but what if they can’t make it to those places? What if it is too far or the wall is too high? What if they can’t touch?
ISR teaches the importance of a back float so they are able to rest and breathe at any point they need to, and then, to flip back over to continue to swim where they need to go.
ISR believes teaching our children to self-rescue first is the most important part to keeping our kids safe. Along with being safe & competent in the water, we also teach these children to SWIM and SWIM WELL!
