Paddle KC is a paddling club in the Kansas City area (Missouri AND Kansas), and an ACA Paddle America Club. We have a great time exploring area lakes and rivers, and doing a variety of unique paddling activities all year round. We require members to own a kayak, SUP, canoe or surfski before joining. We host over 100 events a year - we LOVE TO PADDLE! Paddle KC activities include
- day and night paddles on local and distant lakes and rivers
- Kaw River and Missouri River day and overnight trips
- full moon paddles and lighted night paddles
- kayak games on the water
- day trips and weekend trips to kayaking destinations
- kayak, SUP and canoe camping adventures on rivers and lakes
- happy hours and game nights
- paddling skills workshops and practice sessions
- online learning sessions and Show & Tell events

It's been a great day of talking paddling, trails, cleanups, and outdoor adventures with everyone at REI today, for National Public Lands Day! Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello. I hope to see some of you on the water soon! It was interesting hearing about all the activities going on with the other community organizations. We are lucky to have so many good outdoor groups around Kansas City!

Sunrise paddles are hard to beat. On Labor Day, we met in the dark and launched onto Hillsdale Lake to watch the sun come up. The morning brought more wind and waves than expected, plus one moment when we nearly had a collie wash overboard!

With temperatures reaching around 100° later that day, the 79° launch felt especially sweet.

We had quite a few cancellations for this one, which made the morning a good reminder: some of the best experiences happen because you decided to show up.

There’s still plenty of warm-water paddling ahead this month. Don’t let the season slip by from the sidelines. Check the Paddle KC Paddling Club calendar, pick an upcoming event, and come make some memories with us. We add new paddles, learning opportunities, workouts, social events, and adventures regularly, all year long. In cold water season we also add indoor and off-water outdoor events.

Last Sunday was our final 1st Sunday Paddle & Pints of this year, and it was a great time but a scorcher! Hot day, cool people! We enjoyed a leisurely paddle on the Kaw River (aka Kansas River), and several first time experiences. It was New Boat Day for one guy, first time on the Kaw for all, and first time on the Rock Island Bridge for all!

We'll be back on another section of the Kaw River for a longer downriver paddle on Sunday 27. See details on our calendar.

Tomorrow (Sunday 13th) come say hi at REI in Overland Park. We'll be hanging out at a Paddle KC table and checking out other special happenings for National Public Lands Day.

Sunrise paddles don’t come around often, and we know a lot of you have been waiting for one! Start Labor Day on the water with us, watching the sky light up from your kayak, paddleboard or canoe while enjoying a peaceful morning paddle with good company. Happy Labor Day, paddling friends! This weekend we celebrate the workers and labor movements that helped win many of the protections and benefits we now count on: weekends, the 8-hour workday, overtime pay, safer workplaces, child labor protections, and the right to organize. Those hard-won gains also helped make more room in life for family, friends, rest, and time outdoors.

So here’s to everyone who helped move working life forward, and to enjoying some well-earned paddle time this Labor Day Weekend!
