An Elizabethton police officer struck a bicyclist with a vehicle on Monday afternoon, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report.

Update on Milligan Cycling Team:

Of the seven riders hospitalized there is some good news:

- all are in stable condition
- two have been released from the hospital and a third should be today
- two have improved enough to be moved out of ICU
- two riders remain in the ICU

Unfortunately the motorist who caused the crash has been released on bail - driving status not known.

For those asking what can I do? A strong presence from the cycling community will go a long way…

- attend the next court hearing for the accused in August 31st (should be at the Carter County Court in Elizabethton but we will update time and location when known)

- attend the memorial service that we understand Milligan University is organizing (date & time TBD)

- volunteer your time for a Milligan student who may want someone to ride with or just talk to - recovery will be a long process for these young students and knowing the community has their back can help.

TNR CANCELLED - (Thursday 8/20)

After much deliberation and out of respect for the Milligan community and victims families, we have decided not to proceed with tonight’s ride following yesterday’s tragedy. In addition, many members emotions remain raw with riding on the road giving pause.

For those who do want to ride please be extra cautious and stay safe!

At this time we are still planning our Friday AM ride though a shorter route. If you want to join or just drop by to talk about what has happened join us at Fearless Coffee (7:00am).

We are profoundly shocked and saddened to share that members of our cycling team were in an accident involving a vehicle this morning while cycling in Hampton, TN. Sophomores Haylan Engdahl and Brayden Rogers were killed in this accident. Multiple other Milligan cyclists were also seriously injured and are currently receiving treatment at the Johnson City Medical Center. There are no words to adequately describe this level of loss. Our prayers are with all those impacted by this tragedy. Please keep the Milligan community in your prayers.

This is terrible!!!!!! It happened on our regular route on Simerly Creek. Please be praying!!! Such a beautiful area we live in but we have careless drivers 😢

Ballad Health CEO Alan Levine said Wednesday that the Milligan Cycling Team was involved in the crash that killed two people and injured multiple others.

So a local cyclist gets run off the road today and injured yet the police won't charge the driver for doing it. Way to go Washington County!!!
