Jax State's football home opener is part of a packed weekend of action for the Gamecocks. Cross Country opens their campaign with the annual Foothills Invitational at Choccolocco Park Friday morning. Then on Sunday, Gamecock soccer follows up their win over rival Troy by welcoming North Florida to the home pitch. FREE ADMISSION!

25 Years❗

On August 30, 2001, Ashley (Martin) Cockrell, a soccer athlete for the Gamecocks, made history when she jogged out on the football field in her No. 89 and booted a first-quarter extra point against Cumberland University.

The kick made her the first female to ever score in an NCAA Division I football game. She finished 3-3 on the night. The two-sport athlete's accomplishment soon made waves nationally with media appearances on Regis & Kelly and Good Morning America and features in USA Today, ESPN The Magazine and People Magazine.

Ashley returned to the AmFirst Stadium turf in 2018 for an alumni event where she had the honors of doing the pre-game coin toss.

Jax State safety Caleb Nix was named to the watch list for the 32nd Chuck Bednarik Award on Friday, adding to the preseason accolades hauled in by the Gamecocks.

The 2026 season opens next Saturday in Fargo, N.D. at North Dakota State in a 4:30 p.m. kickoff on CBS Sports Network.
