There’s no such thing as a stupid question… some get pretty close tho! For a lot of visitors, this is their first time to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. So, asking questions about Grizzly and black bears and other wildlife is very much welcome, even if some seem to lack a little common sense. Don’t fret, we’ll give you the benefit of doubt! We want everyone to enjoy their trip, see lots of things, take lots of pics, and create lots of memories!

Even in rare places for a bear to be, doesn’t mean they can’t be there! Happy that this person only sustained non-life threatening injuries and was able to get to the hospital!

Will you need to spray a bear everywhere you go out here? No! Should you still carry bear spray? Yup!

Jackson Hole is bear country. Grand Teton National Park is bear country. Yellowstone National Park……… you guessed it, bear country. It’s not a tourist trap, it’s a real safety tool that should be part of your gear every time you go out and play!

Bears out here living their best bear life! Great example from BearVault Bear Canisters showing backcountry food storage done right!
- Bears are naturally curious
- Make sure your bear resistant canister is always locked
- Store it away from camp: 100yrds recommended in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks from your tent, on the ground, hidden in brush or behind rocks, away from cliffs or water.
- Know the rules on types of canisters allowed
- Canisters aren’t JUST for food, use them for: trash, toiletries, sunscreen, feminine hygiene products, medication (especially coated pills), BUG spray/insect repellant, anything with even the slightest scent can attract bears, so store them correctly. Keep wildlife wild 🤙🏻
